Position Summary - 10years+ exposure
We are seeking a skilled Software Developer Interoperability to design, build, and support healthcare interfaces using the InterSystems IRIS for Health Interoperability platform. This role will focus on the development, testing, validation, and support of clinical and administrative integrations, with an emphasis on lab systems, orders, and results.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills, working closely with application teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, standards-based integrations that support patient care and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Interoperability & Interface Development
" Design, develop, and maintain healthcare interfaces using InterSystems IRIS for Health Interoperability
" Implement and support interfaces using healthcare standards, including:
o HL7 v2.x
o ASTM
o EDI-based lab orders and results
o FHIR (preferred, not required)
" Leverage IRIS Interoperability components such as:
o Business Services, Business Processes, and Business Operations
o Data Transformations (DTL)
o Routing, orchestration, and error-handling patterns aligned with IRIS best practices
" Develop using modern ObjectScript patterns and conventions (not legacy MUMPS-style coding)
Development & Engineering Practices
" Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following modern software development methodologies (Agile/Scrum, CI/CD concepts, version control)
" Use SQL effectively for data access, reporting, and troubleshooting within IRIS
" Participate in code reviews and adhere to internal development standards and integration patterns
" Create and maintain technical documentation for interfaces, mappings, and workflows
System Integration & Collaboration
" Collaborate with internal application teams, vendors, and external partners to:
o Gather interface requirements
o Define message specifications
o Map data and validate workflows
" Support interface testing, validation, and go-live activities across multiple environments
" Troubleshoot and resolve interface issues, including data quality, transmission failures, and workflow defects
" Assist with production support, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
" Hands-on experience with InterSystems IRIS for Health, specifically the Interoperability platform
" Strong proficiency in ObjectScript, using modern development techniques
" Deep working knowledge of:
o HL7 v2.x messaging
o ASTM standards
o Interface workflows for lab orders, results, and acknowledgments
" Solid understanding of SQL within InterSystems environments
" Familiarity with interface engine concepts such as message queues, retries, acknowledgments, and error handling
Healthcare & Domain Knowledge
" Experience working with laboratory systems, including:
o Lab orders (ORM)
o Results reporting (ORU)
o Reference ranges, units, and test catalogs
" Understanding of healthcare workflows, data integrity, and regulatory considerations
" Experience with EHR/EIS/LIS integrations is strongly preferred
Communication & Collaboration
" Excellent verbal and written communication skills
" Proven ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
" Strong collaboration skills; comfortable working across multiple teams and disciplines
" Ability to manage priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare IT environment
