JOB SUMMARY

The Cardiologist is a licensed physician specializing in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The physician uses evidence-based medical practices to evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, perform diagnostic procedures, and provide comprehensive cardiac care. The Cardiologist promotes patient safety, clinical excellence, and continuity of care while collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver optimal outcomes.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis:
Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular evaluations, including history, physical exams, and diagnostic testing. Interpret EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, cardiac catheterizations, and other cardiac imaging results.

Treatment & Care Planning:
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and other cardiac conditions. Monitor patient progress and modify care plans as needed.

Procedural & Interventional Care:
Perform or oversee cardiac procedures as applicable, including stress testing, catheterizations, and other non-invasive or invasive diagnostic procedures.

Patient Safety & Quality of Care:
Ensure safe, evidence-based care delivery. Promote best practices and adhere to hospital protocols, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines.

Patient Education & Counseling:
Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, treatment options, medications, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care strategies.

Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with primary care providers, nurses, technicians, and specialists to provide coordinated, multidisciplinary cardiac care.

Ethical Practice & Advocacy:
Uphold patient rights, confidentiality, and informed consent. Address ethical and clinical concerns appropriately and advocate for patient-centered care.

Documentation & EMR:
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation using EPIC or other electronic medical record systems.

Professional Development:
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, continuing medical education, and professional development activities.
