JOB SUMMARY
The Surgical Technologist is a certified allied health professional who supports the surgical team by ensuring a safe, sterile, and efficient operating room environment. Working under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses, the Surgical Technologist prepares operating rooms, arranges equipment, assists during surgical procedures, and maintains sterile technique throughout the operation.
This role supports hospital inpatient and outpatient surgical departments with 24×7 staffing, including departments with on-call coverage. Examples include General Surgery, Orthopedics, GI, Urology, OB/GYN, and other procedural surgical areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Clinical Judgment
Applies clinical knowledge and sterile technique to prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
Clinical Inquiry
Maintains awareness of surgical best practices and participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives related to surgical services, infection prevention, and patient safety.
Caring Practices
Creates a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients by assisting with positioning, skin preparation, and transport. Demonstrates professionalism and compassion before, during, and after surgical procedures.

Recognizes, respects, and incorporates patient and family diversity—including culture, beliefs, age, gender, and values—into perioperative care delivery.
Advocacy and Moral Agency
