Furniture Designer
Job Description
About Parthenon Architects
Parthenon Architects is a luxury architecture and design studio now expanding into a dedicated furniture design vertical. We craft spaces that are precise, considered, and built to endure - and we bring that same philosophy to the furniture we design. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape and lead a new practice within an established studio known for high-end residential and commercial work.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Head of Furniture Design to build and lead our furniture design vertical from the ground up. This is not a purely conceptual role - we need someone who can translate design intent into production-ready outcomes, coordinate across vendors and workshops, and deliver exceptional custom furniture for luxury projects. You will report directly to the studio's founding partners and manage a small team as the vertical grows.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Define the design direction and standards for the furniture vertical in alignment with Parthenon's studio ethos.
- Build, mentor, and manage a small design team as the practice scales.
- Collaborate closely with the founding partners and senior architects on project briefs and design integration.
- Own the end-to-end design process - from concept to delivery.
Design & Execution
- Design custom furniture for luxury residential and commercial interiors.
- Develop furniture concepts, layouts, and detailed working drawings.
- Prepare technical and production drawings for workshop/factory execution.
- Ensure all designs are practical, functional, ergonomic, and production-friendly.
- Select appropriate materials, finishes, hardware, joinery, and construction techniques.
- Troubleshoot execution and production-related challenges on the ground.
Vendor & Production Coordination
- Coordinate with carpenters, vendors, factories, and execution teams.
- Manage factory and workshop coordination, monitoring production processes and timelines.
- Conduct site and workshop visits for coordination and quality checks.
- Handle vendor follow-ups and ensure on-time delivery to project schedules.
What We're Looking For
Experience & Knowledge
- 5+ years of experience in furniture design with a strong portfolio demonstrating executed work.
- Deep understanding of furniture construction, manufacturing processes, and joinery details.
- Hands-on knowledge of modular and custom furniture execution - not just conceptual design.
- Strong command of materials: veneers, laminates, metals, upholstery, hardware, finishes, and mechanisms.
- Solid understanding of ergonomics, proportions, and furniture functionality.
- Familiarity with hardware brands and furniture mechanisms.
- Experience in luxury residential interiors strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and other relevant design software.
- Ability to create detailed furniture and execute drawings independently.
- Ability to convert design concepts into production-ready documentation.
- Basic understanding of costing and budgeting is an advantage.
Soft Skills
- Strong coordination and communication skills across vendors, craftsmen, and internal teams.
- Sharp eye for detailing, proportions, and finish quality.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to resolve site and production challenges.
- Self-driven, organized, and comfortable working in a growing studio environment.
Application
Please share your CV along with a portfolio of executed furniture work. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
