Deputy Editor
Job Description
Coordinate with the national news desk in Chennai and deliver national stories at the earliest. Coordinate with the internet desk, in line with our online first policy. Editing and layout -Edit and fact-check copy for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and adherence to the publication’s style.
-Plan layout, design and execute pages. -Write compelling headlines, captions, and blurbs. -Ensure logical story flow and appropriate trimming to fit page space.
-Coordinate with designers for final page layout and visual coherence Content quality -Maintain editorial tone, balance, and neutrality. -Strictly follow The Hindu’s stylebook. -Check for legal, ethical, and factual accuracy before going to print.
Deadline management Prioritise tasks to meet tight daily production schedules. -Troubleshoot last-minute changes, corrections, or additions. Team coordination and leadership -Guide and mentor junior sub-editors and trainees.
Preferred Candidate Profile: • 10–15 years of experience in newsroom editing/news desk operations. • Strong editorial judgment and page planning expertise. • Experience in print newsroom production and deadline-driven environments.
• Familiarity with digital-first editorial workflows. • Proficiency in English is mandatory. • Candidates based in Bengaluru and proficiency in Kannada will be preferred.
