Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional person to lead our Ground and Water (Contaminated Land) team in India. You will have at least 15 years’ post-graduate experience working in the Geo-environmental field.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and coaching team members in the GCC Ground & Water Team. This will include the day-to-day management of a team, delivery of projects working closely with and being supported by other team members, Project Managers and Directors within the UK team.
The position would suit someone with extensive experience in the UK contaminated land sector who would like to further develop their leadership and technical consultancy skills and build a successful team. The role involves organizational and administrative responsibilities and requires skills, such as planning, analysis and judgement. The Team Leader will be responsible for both the technical and commercial delivery of projects, including effective delegation and checking of work, and will be responsible for the line management and mentoring of more junior staff ensuring their technical development and career progression.
The Team Leader is also expected to ensure that their own professional skills and competencies are continually improved to meet the requirements of the team and any relevant professional bodies.
The requirements of the Ground & Water Team Leader will include, but are not limited to, the consistent delivery of the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Leadership of projects and line management of staff including supporting career development (technical, professional and personal) goals of junior staff, to encourage training and learning.
- Be able to travel to support team members in other offices from time to time.
- Provision of reliable, effective and efficient delivery of environmental consultancy services and seeks regular feedback on performance.
- To work in an integrated manner with limited supervision where appropriate and to understand the task at hand; what is required, when it is required etc. and to deliver tasks in a cost effective and timely manner.
- Successful and proactive project management of more complex projects / tasks – strong commercial awareness.
- Provides technical direction including robust reviews of technical work prepared by others with
- constructive and developmental feedback.
- Building strong relationships with the WSP UK teams and to proactively identify the tasks required within a project and confirm their requirements with project managers.
- Supports the UK Team with the preparation of fee proposals for complex and technically challenging projects.
- Is able to successfully manage a number of projects / proposals at one time.
- Promotes the importance of our health, safety and wellbeing culture and demonstrates that they live the values.
- Accurate and efficient preparation of more complex reports – able to convey complex information to others in an understandable manner.
- Effective delegation of project tasks with review and feedback.
- Preparation and self-checking of interpretative (non-specialist) reports.
- Developing specialist skills in line with career aspirations and PDR with input into specialist reports with limited oversight.
- Takes ownership of own training path including achieving further professional qualifications and completing self learning and proactively seeks self-development and exposure to areas of operations out with existing experience.
