Role Purpose:

To lead and own the end-to-end assortment strategy and business performance of MedPlus Large Format Stores (LFS), acting as the central command from HO. This role will drive topline growth, margin optimization, and customer experience by ensuring the right assortment, availability, and execution across all LFS locations.


Role Summary:

This is not just a coordination role—it is a business leadership role responsible for building and scaling the LFS model. The incumbent will define the assortment vision, influence category strategy, and ensure seamless execution through strong cross-functional leadership.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Assortment Strategy & Business Ownership

  • Define and lead the national assortment strategy for LFS across all categories (Pharma, FMCG, Wellness, Private Labels).
  • Own assortment architecture (core vs optional SKUs, premiumization, regional customization).
  • Drive category mix optimization to maximize sales, margins, and basket size.
  • Align assortment with customer segments, store catchments, and competition benchmarking .


2. P&L Impact & Performance Management

  • Own key business metrics for LFS:
  • Sales growth & Sales/sq. ft
  • Gross margins & GMROI
  • Inventory turns & working capital efficiency
  • Drive data-backed decision making through dashboards, analytics, and periodic reviews.
  • Identify growth levers and lead interventions to improve underperforming stores/categories.


3. Cross-Functional Leadership (Control Tower Role)

  • Act as the central orchestrator for LFS , ensuring alignment across:
  • Category & Buying Teams
  • Supply Chain & Warehousing
  • Marketing & Promotions
  • Visual Merchandising & Store Design
  • IT & Pricing Systems
  • Retail Operations
  • Drive accountability and timelines across functions for flawless execution.


4. Store Launch & Scale-Up Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end assortment planning for new LFS store launches.
  • Define launch playbooks and ensure execution excellence.
  • Oversee post-launch stabilization , ensuring stores ramp up quickly to target productivity.
  • Build a scalable model for rapid expansion of LFS.


5. Inventory, Availability & Supply Efficiency

  • Ensure best-in-class on-shelf availability (OSA) across LFS.
  • Optimize depth vs width of assortment to balance availability and working capital.
  • Drive aging reduction and liquidation strategies .
  • Partner with supply chain to improve forecasting and replenishment models .


6. Vendor & Private Label Strategy

  • Influence and align with buying teams on vendor selection and portfolio expansion .
  • Drive exclusive and differentiated assortment for LFS.
  • Accelerate private label penetration and profitability .


7. Customer Experience & Store Differentiation

  • Ensure LFS delivers a superior shopping experience and customer service
  • Integrate assortment with merchandising, visibility, and promotions .
  • Continuously evolve assortment based on customer insights and buying behavior .


8. Team Building & Governance

  • Build and lead a high-performance central team for assortment and LFS coordination.
  • Establish review mechanisms, SOPs, and governance cadence .
  • Mentor teams and drive a culture of ownership, speed, and execution excellence.
