Position Summary:
Elektron is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer with experience in substation and power system design to support the engineering and deployment of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects . The role will focus primarily on AC-side electrical design , including grid interconnection, substations, transformers, protection systems, and electrical infrastructure for utility-scale BESS plants.
The candidate will work closely with the engineering team to design and develop 33 kV to 220 kV grid-connected energy storage systems , supporting project development from conceptual design through detailed engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
AC System Design for BESS Plants
- Design and develop AC-side electrical systems for utility-scale BESS plants.
- Prepare single line diagrams (SLD) for BESS plants and substations.
- Support design of 33 kV, 66 kV, and 220 kV grid interconnection systems.
- Coordinate integration between inverters/PCS, transformers, switchgear, and substations.
Substation Engineering:
- Support design and engineering of 33 kV / 66 kV / 220 kV substations.
- Develop layouts for AIS/GIS substations including equipment placement.
- Assist in specification and selection of: Power transformers, Auxiliary Transformers, Switchgear, Protection systems, Busbar systems.
Electrical Design Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain: Cable schedules, Cable routing layouts, Earthing & grounding layouts, Lightning protection layouts, Control cable schedules.
- Develop Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for electrical equipment and materials.
- Support preparation of technical specifications and tender documents.
Equipment Selection & Vendor Coordination:
- Support technical evaluation of electrical equipment including: Transformers, Switchgear, Protection relays, HV/MV cables, Earthing systems.
- Work with vendors and EPC contractors during design and execution phases.
Grid Compliance & Coordination:
- Support grid interconnection studies and documentation
- Ensure compliance with relevant CEA, IEC, IEEE, and local utility standards.
- Coordinate with grid operators, consultants, and EPC contractors.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Location: Bengaluru (Hybrid)
Experience:
- 5~10 years of experience in electrical engineering design.
- Hands-on experience in substation design or grid-connected power plants.
- Experience working on 33 kV / 66 kV / 132 kV / 220 kV electrical systems.
- Exposure to renewable energy, power plants, or energy storage projects preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of Power system design, Substation engineering, Transformers and switchgear, Electrical protection systems, Cable sizing and routing
- Experience preparing SLDs, Cable schedules, BoQ, Electrical layouts.
- Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP / DIgSILENT / PSSE / equivalent (preferred), MS Excel for engineering calculations
