Core Responsibilities:
Dashboard Design and Development The Dashboard Developer creates compelling, user-centered dashboards that present key performance indicators, metrics, and analytics in clear, accessible formats. Stakeholder Collaboration and Requirements Gathering The role requires continuous engagement with business stakeholders, executives, and end users to understand their analytical needs and decision-making contexts. The Dashboard Developer conducts requirements sessions, presents prototypes, gathers feedback, and iteratively refines solutions to ensure they deliver meaningful value. Strong communication skills enable the developer to translate technical capabilities into business benefits and vice versa.
Maintenance, Optimization, and Enhancement Ongoing stewardship of existing dashboards is essential. The Dashboard Developer monitors dashboard performance, troubleshoots issues, implements updates based on changing business needs, and continuously optimizes for speed and usability. They proactively identify opportunities to enhance existing solutions and retire outdated or underutilized dashboards.
Governance, Documentation, and Best Practices The developer establishes and maintains documentation for all dashboard solutions, including data dictionaries, user guides, and technical specifications. They implement governance standards around naming conventions, color schemes, branding guidelines, and accessibility requirements. The role also involves promoting data literacy and best practices for visualization design across the organization.
Key Technical Competencies:
Strong proficiency in business intelligence platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, or Looker is essential. The candidate should demonstrate expertise in SQL for data extraction and manipulation, understanding of data warehousing concepts, and familiarity with ETL processes. Knowledge of scripting languages like Python or R for advanced analytics, experience with cloud data platforms, and understanding of API integration enhance the candidate's capability to deliver sophisticated solutions.
Critical Success Factors:
Success in this role is measured by the adoption and impact of dashboard solutions on organizational decision-making. The Dashboard Developer must balance technical excellence with business acumen, aesthetic design with functional utility, and innovation with reliability.
