Essential Job Functions:
- Analyze customer requirements, standards, and product requirements and prepare detailed mechanical requirement specification
- Prepare mechanical design for battery pack assembly: plastic enclosures, sheet metal brackets, die-cast parts, busbars, insulation sheet design, sealing, assembly techniques using SolidWorks
- Estimate effort planning for mechanical design and development
- Coordinate with circuit team to prepare design layout for electrical components like circuit board, relay, fuse, wiring harness
- Perform design calculations like clearance-creepage
- Perform FE simulations like resonance, vibration (random and sweep), mechanical shock, thermal shock, static simulations, crush analysis, PCB strain analysis
- Apply design for manufacturing and design for assembly guidelines in the design to meet manufacturing and assembly requirements
- Analyze the risk in the design by FMEA methodology in accordance with AIAG-VDA approach
- Prepare 2D manufacturing drawings, conduct tolerance stack-up studies
- Prepare test plans, test cases and testing of battery components to confirm the requirements
Primary Skills & Relevant Experience
- Total years of experience: Less than 3 years
- Relevant years of experience in Simulation (at least 1 year of hands-on simulation experience)
- Relevant years of experience in battery assembly or similar products (Preferable: Battery systems or automotive components)
- Relevant years of experience in types of analysis: Static, Modal, Nonlinear, Thermal
- Relevant years of experience in Abaqus (First preference) or HyperWorks (OptiStruct/Nastran)
- Relevant years of experience in types of meshing: 2D shell, 3D Hexa, Tetra elements
Education
- BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Experience
- 2–3 years
Skillsets
- Knowledge on CAD software preferably SolidWorks and preferably knowledge on any simulation software like Abaqus (knowledge on StarCCM is added advantage)
- Knowledge on plastic, sheet metal, die-casting
- Knowledge on material selection based on various properties
- Preferably have knowledge on GD&T and tolerance stack-up
- Knowledge on manufacturing techniques – injection molding, stamping, machining
