Role Overview
The Senior Test Engineer works largely independently within defined project or work streams and is accountable for end results. The role involves hands on execution within design and development initiatives, as well as acting as an expert tester who provides guidance on test planning, strategy, and execution. The individual will advise internal teams on resolving functional and technical issues related to complex trading applications and supporting infrastructure, contributing to large scale process improvement and transformation initiatives.

- Work independently on assigned projects or work streams with limited supervision and accountability for delivery outcomes.
- Act as an expert tester, designing and developing test scripts and automation solutions where applicable.
- Provide test planning, estimation, and execution guidance to project teams.
- Support design and development activities by validating functional and technical requirements.
- Perform manual and exploratory testing for complex, high risk business scenarios.
- Advise internal stakeholders on resolving functional and technical issues across applications and infrastructure.
- Ensure adequate test coverage across applications, integrations, databases, and interfaces.
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and infrastructure teams to apply risk based testing.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes, tools, and quality standards.
- Communicate test progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders.
- 8–12 years of experience in software testing within complex IT environments.
- Strong expertise in test design, test execution, and defect management.
- Experience working independently on projects with responsibility for delivery outcomes.
- Hands on experience with manual and exploratory testing.
- Good understanding of enterprise applications, integrations, and infrastructure components.
- Ability to analyse and resolve functional and technical issues.
- Experience working in Agile and/or Waterfall delivery models.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience testing ETRM or trading systems.
- Exposure to commodities trading (Gas, Power, Oil, LNG, etc.).
- Experience with test automation frameworks and scripting.
- Knowledge of databases and data validation.
- Experience with risk based testing and large transformation programmes.
- Familiarity with compliance driven or regulated environments.
- Experience working on process improvement or enterprise transformation initiatives.
