As Assistant General Counsel for the India Campus business, you will lead the legal workstream for this strategic initiative, in consultation with the Global General Counsel and the Regional General Counsel, India. This is a unique opportunity for a legal counsel who thrives at the intersection of education, law, compliance, and UGC regulations, as well as global collaboration. This role is based in India and is remote.\n\nRoles and Responsibilities:\n\nServe as the legal team lead for the India Campus initiative in India, owning end-to-end execution of contracts and compliance for physical campuses across multiple locations in India.\nDraft, review, and negotiate contracts relating to the India Campus initiative, including those with students, faculty, partners, and vendors.\nRespond to all student-related issues and compliance on behalf of international campus initiatives in India.\nPrepare and update form agreements, including collaborating with the organization’s Global General Counsel and Head of Legal, India, as appropriate.\nPartner with the Privacy Team to guide privacy laws as they impact the India Campus.\nTrain internal clients in the contracting and compliance process/practices.\nCollaborate with internal subject matter experts in HR, Finance, among others, about intercompany transactions.\nWork within an increased volume of activity in business-critical legal matters, on diverse types of transactions in various time zones.\nEnsure a high-quality standard of documentation and communication across stakeholders.\n\nWhat We're Looking For:\n\n7-10 years of in-house legal experience, ideally in the higher education or ed-tech sector\nWell-versed in contract drafting, reviewing, and negotiating.\nWorking knowledge of University Grants Commission regulations for setting up foreign university campuses in India.\nProven ability to work with globally distributed teams and external stakeholders with different time zones.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate laws and regulations for non-legal stakeholders and university partners.\nHigh sense of urgency and attention to detail.\nStrong legal and project management skills, with a track record of delivering complex, multi-stakeholder legal projects on time.\nPassion for education and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on learners in India.\nPrior experience in fast-paced startups or growth-stage companies is a strong advantage.\n\nNice to Have:\n\nPrior experience in a university setting.\nExperience with data privacy laws (especially in education) across jurisdictions, including India, the EU, and the US.
