Job Description

To enable us to fully deliver our projects we are looking for an innovative and passionate Lead Protection Substation Engineer to work on projects from initial concept and feasibility through to procurement specification, construction and commissioning. The successful candidate will have the chance to work on a wide variety of EHV (up to 400kV) substation design aspects, and our project program facilitates the roll-out of substation construction works from 11kV up to 400kV, along with providing support for increasing customer connection activity.\n\nJob Description Lead protection design engineer: -\nHead team of 2-3 engineers and CAD.\nKeep project on track and achieve required milestones for the project.\nLiaise with Project managers and Head of engineering.\nReport status of each project.\nChecking and approving senior engineer design works.\nResponsible for yearly appraisal and development activities of team members and report to head of engineering.\n\nWhat we’re looking for\n\nHNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering with proven experience in a related engineering discipline;\nThe ability to technically assess and solve issues, with a thorough understanding of the technical requirements of the protection aspects of the projects;\nExperience all voltages of transmission voltage plant and equipment is advantageous;\nIdeally experience in preparing and manipulating engineering drawings, using computer-aided design tools (e.g. AutoCAD) as this is the main tool we use;\nBe willing to travel and participate in site meetings throughout the UK when necessary.\n\nTechnical skills but not limited to:\n\nTaking lead on Meetings for protection design part for each substation\nDevelop Key line diagram -Concept (even when no protection design of concept is given from client side)\nSettings calculations\nCT/VT selection and calculation\nWiring diagram\nTermination diagram\nBattery sizing\nMeeting with clients and working with multiple standards\nIn depth knowledge working principle of each IED\nLiaising with DNOs and their side of design.

(Interface design)\nFinalizing protection panel GA drgs etc\nSimple electrical calculation which are required to check Specifications of equipment’s\nChecking supplier drgs\nLiaising with other disciplines\nSelecting relays\nLast but not least sometimes we work without client specification, as most of our client don’t know what the want , so someone should be able to drive the design.\nSometimes will have to go to site to troubleshoot any issues with commissioning engineer.\nTesting of IED, visiting Panel supplier factory\nMulticore sheets schedule\n\nYour projects will include:\nHVAC substation primary and secondary design and HVDC Offshore Windfarm projects\n\nYour role will give you opportunities to:\nPerform work in accordance with the agreed budget and schedule with little supervision.\nIndependently perform the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works to standard and compliant regulations.\nCoordinate across project disciplines, external subcontractors and remote offices such that technical risks are identified and mitigated, and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
