| Okta L4 Senior Engineer Position: Senior Okta Engineer – L4 Experience: 7+ years in IAM (Identity & Access Management) Department: Identity & Access Management (IAM) - reports to Director of Digital Identity Employment Type: T&M Location: Offshore- India Role Overview Highly experienced Okta L4 Senior Engineer with deep expertise in enterprise identity management, authentication technologies, and Okta platform administration. This role requires 10+ years of IAM experience, including extensive hands-on work with Okta Universal Directory, MFA/SSO architecture, policy management, lifecycle automation, and advanced troubleshooting. As an L4 engineer, you will serve as the highest technical escalation point, drive platform improvements, ensure security compliance, and lead complex integration and automation initiatives, contribute to projects. Key Responsibilities Advanced Okta Administration • Serve as the L4 escalation point for complex Okta issues and major incident resolution. • Setup , Administer and optimize Okta Universal Directory, including schema extensions, profile mastering, attribute mapping, and identity store design. • Architect, configure, and maintain SSO integrations for enterprise applications. • Manage and enhance MFA, including factor enrollment policies, contextual access, adaptive MFA, and device trust. -Lifecycle optimisation for users not signing on, cleanup exercises and audits. • Design and maintain sign-on policies, password policies, routing rules, and authentication flows aligned with Zero Trust principles. Identity Lifecycle & Automation • Lead implementation and troubleshooting of lifecycle management, including provisioning/deprovisioning using APIs, and Okta Workflows. • Integrate Okta with HRIS, directories, and downstream apps ensuring consistent and secure identity lifecycle processes. • Develop and automate identity workflows using Okta Workflows, APIs, PowerShell, or equivalent tools. Troubleshooting & Platform Ownership • Conduct deep-dive analysis of authentication failures, MFA issues, token/SSO errors, and federation misconfigurations. • Analyze logs using Okta System Logs, or security monitoring tools. • Own RCA processes for major issues and implement long-term corrective actions. Security, Governance & Compliance • Implement strong authentication and authorization policies based on IAM and Zero Trust best practices. • Ensure governance around admin roles, access delegation, and least privilege. • Support audits and compliance activities (SOX, ISO, SOC2, GDPR). • Enforce consistent application of passwordless strategies, risk scoring, and security posture controls. Architecture & Platform Enhancements • Contribute to the identity architecture strategy and Okta roadmap planning. • Lead major platform upgrades and identity flows. • Evaluate and introduce new Okta features, ensuring alignment with organizational IAM goals. • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, SOPs, architecture diagrams, and runbooks. Cross-Team Collaboration & Leadership • Partner with IAM teamd, and Application teams to enable secure and seamless authentication experiences. • Mentor junior engineers and guide L1–L3 teams during escalations. • Provide technical leadership on IAM initiatives, platform stability, and identity governance improvements. Required Skills & Experience Technical Expertise • 10+ years of experience in IAM, including deep hands-on Okta experience. • Strong expertise in: • Okta Universal Directory • SSO • MFA & Adaptive MFA • Sign-on policies and access rules • Lifecycle Management • SCIM provisioning • Advanced troubleshooting skills across authentication flows, federation models, token behavior, and identity APIs. • Strong understanding of identity fundamentals: • Token handling (JWT, SAML assertions) • Federation trust relationships • Authentication vs. authorization • Conditional access & Zero Trust architecture • Experience with scripting and automation (Okta Workflows, PowerShell, APIs). Security & Governance • In-depth understanding of IAM security principles, Zero Trust, privileged access practices, and identity threat detection. • Experience with compliance frameworks and audit support. • Strong governance mindset with ability to enforce identity and security policies across the enterprise. Soft Skills • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. • Ability to lead high-pressure escalations and make decisions quickly. • Strong documentation and architectural design capabilities. • Leadership mindset with ability to support and guide global teams.
