Associate Professor – Optometry

Role & Responsibilities
Academic Responsibilities
Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate lectures in core optometry subjects
Conduct and supervise clinical and laboratory sessions
Train students in refraction, slit lamp examination, contact lens fitting, and diagnostic procedures
Develop and revise curriculum in line with UGC and industry standards
Prepare academic documentation including lesson plans, course files, and evaluation reports
Adopt innovative teaching methodologies and digital learning platforms
Research & Publications
Associate Professor
Publish research papers in UGC-CARE / Scopus indexed journals
Guide postgraduate dissertations
Apply for minor/major funded research projects
Present research at conferences and seminars
Professor
Lead funded research projects and research clusters
Secure national/international grants
Supervise Ph. D. scholars
Publish in high-impact journals and contribute to patents and innovations
Foster interdisciplinary and clinical collaborations
Academic Leadership & Administration
Associate Professor
Participate in curriculum development committees
Assist in NAAC/NIRF documentation
Organize workshops, seminars, and FDPs
Support clinical training, internships, and hospital tie-ups
Professor
Provide departmental leadership and strategic direction
Mentor junior faculty members
Contribute to Academic Council and policy formulation
Ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance
Strengthen institutional rankings and research output
Eligibility Criteria
Associate Professor
M. Optom / Master’s in Optometry or relevant discipline
Ph. D. in Optometry / Vision Science / Allied Health Sciences (as per norms)
Minimum 8 years of teaching/research/clinical experience
Required research publications as per UGC guidelines
Professor
Ph. D. in Optometry / Vision Science or related discipline
Minimum 12–15 years of academic/research experience
Significant publication record in indexed journals
Experience supervising doctoral research
Demonstrated academic leadership
Desirable Skills
Expertise in clinical optometry and diagnostic instrumentation
Experience in eye hospital / clinical practice setup
Grant writing and funded project experience
Knowledge of accreditation frameworks (NAAC, NABH, etc.)
Strong communication, mentoring, and leadership skills
Performance Expectations
Achievement of annual publication and research targets
Effective clinical training and student mentorship
Contribution to accreditation, ranking, and institutional growth
Active participation in university committees and initiatives
