Job Description

Design Engineer- Piping

Chennai

Full Time

Experience from 1 year to 5+ years

Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Piping Design Engineer with 1 to 5+ years of experience to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing high-quality 3D piping models and 2D fabrication drawings for industrial applications. You will translate P&IDs into functional 3D routes, ensuring all designs are optimized for manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Core Modeling: Create complex 3D piping routes, skid assemblies, and associated sheet metal components (e.g., brackets, enclosures) using SolidWorks Routing.

Design Efficiency: Develop innovative piping layouts that optimize flow, minimize pressure drops, and align with specific project objectives and space constraints.

Production Deliverables: Utilize SolidWorks to produce high-precision Piping Isometrics, Spool drawings, and General Arrangement (GA) layouts for fabrication and site installation.

Technical Documentation: Generate accurate 3D models of piping components, valves, and instrumentation, ensuring 2D drawings include all necessary manufacturing data.

Design Synthesis: Work closely with Project Leads and Process Engineers to translate P&IDs (Process & Instrumentation Diagrams) into functional 3D designs while maintaining design intent.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with structural and electrical teams to perform clash detection and integrate feedback to ensure overall design feasibility.

Optimization: Identify opportunities for design improvements, such as reducing the number of welds or optimizing pipe supports, to drive cost reduction and manufacturing efficiency.

Change Management: Incorporate design modifications into existing piping layouts and drawings promptly, ensuring all downstream impacts are addressed.

Industry Compliance: Ensure all drawings and design documentation strictly adhere to industry standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, B31.1) and client-specific piping specifications.

Quality Assurance: Perform rigorous quality checks to verify pipe schedules, material grades, flange ratings, and dimensional accuracy before release.

Records Management: Maintain organized, up-to-date project records, including revision histories of drawings, Transmittals, and Technical Queries (TQs).

Library Standards: Create and manage standardized Piping Design Libraries, including custom fittings, valves, and standard support details to ensure team-wide consistency.

Education: BE in Mechanical Engineering.

Software: 3+ years in SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor (specifically Piping modules).

Industry: Proven experience in Piping/Process industries (Oil & Gas, Water, Pharma, etc.).

Standards: Strong knowledge of piping codes (ASME B31.3/B31.1) and component specs (Schedules/Ratings).

Skills: Expertise in 2D detailing, GD&T, and reading complex technical layouts.

Soft Skills: Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
