Passionate UE Game Developers
Job Description
Desktop VR Game / Level-D Flight Sims / 20-G Human Centrifuge / Rehearsing Op-Sindhoor 2.0 / ISRO’s Manned Space Flight
The Axial Aero Connection
From the viscerally immersive Raycaster game in 1993 to modern day flight simulators (that render every blade of grass and every bump on the runway) all have one thing in common - the passion of a Game developer.
Unreal Engine developers at Axial Aero are such passionate creators. Except that the visualisation is now 330-degree spherically curved screen or VR/MR/XR, the terrain is georeferenced, the cockpit or the space-vehicle moves 360-degrees…sometimes at 10+G force (with our patent pending electro-mechanical design). And the pilot or the astronaut inside is an active-duty officer whose muscle memory depends on how real you render it and how responsive the render is.
At Axial Aero, UE5 isn't a game engine, it's the visual nervous system of a full-motion flight simulator. The Image Generator (IG) you build locks in sub-frame sync with complex motion platforms running at physical G-loads dodging BVR missiles. The terrain you render is the same terrain that a pilot will fly inches above the ground at super-sonic speeds during actual missions. The weather you simulate is the weather that kills. Every shader, every LOD decision, every frame budget trade-off has a direct consequence: does this crew member return home from a real mission, or not?
If you've spent your career building Games that you wish were real….this is where what you build actually plays out in real life.
Unreal Engine Developer – Visual Systems & Image Generation
Location: (Onsite) – Hyderabad / Bengaluru
Employment Type: Full-Time
Experience: 5+ Years
Domain: Game-development / Aviation Simulation / Un-real / XR / C++
About Axial Aero
We build next-generation full-motion, full-mission simulation platforms - for fighter pilots pulling high-G manoeuvres, helicopter pilots doing nape-of-earth flying, commercial pilots running emergency procedures, and astronauts training for space flight. Machines that don't just look like the real thing but feel like it. It means centrifugal forces a pilot physically experiences. 6-DOF and multi-axis 360-degree rotation platforms driven by safety-critical embedded software. And it also means immersive projection and XR environments blending real-time physics - whether you're modelling a fighter cockpit, a chopper, a commercial airliner, a missile or a spacecraft crew station.
We're a small, deeply technical team moving fast. People here own problems end-to-end: from scene architecture to CIGI protocol integration to what a crew member sees through the HUD. If you've spent your career waiting to work on something genuinely challenging, exciting and meaningful - this is it.
What You'll Be Building
You will be part of a truly multi-disciplinary team, sharing knowledge on materials, mechanical designs, electronics, aerodynamics, aero-engines, human physiology, aviation medicine, firmware, weapons, electronic warfare, software and AI.
Your primary focus will be building and maintaining the Unreal Engine 5 Image Generator (IG) at the heart of Axial Aero's simulation platform - a field-deployable system intended for pilot training and operational readiness exercises. You will own the visual pipeline from CIGI protocol integration through to frame delivery, ensuring the rendered world and beyond (Cosmos) matches both the physics engine and the physical motion of the platform in real time.
Depending on the programme, this work may also open doors that very few engineers get access to: restricted civil and military aerospace facilities, direct interaction with operators in the field, and the kind of feedback on your work that you can only get from people who've actually flown the aircraft or trained for space orbit. You may also have the privilege of interacting with decorated soldiers and officers of the Indian armed forces.
If you have a passion for real-time rendering, immersive simulation, and aviation training and the patriotism to contribute to Bharat's Aatmanirbharata - this is the perfect role for you.
Key Responsibilities
CIGI Integration & Image Generation
• Implement and maintain a CIGI Host-to-IG pipeline within UE5, parsing real-time CIGI 3.3+ messages for entity control, terrain queries, and sensor effects
• Synchronise the UE5 visual state with FDM SDK physics output - zero frame desync, zero jitter tolerance, sub-millisecond latency
• Build and manage entity spawning, LOD control, and sensor view rendering driven by CIGI message streams
Real-Time Rendering & Optimisation
• Design and maintain a 60+ fps rendering pipeline meeting full-dome projection need (330° curved display, multi-channel output)
• Own frame budget management : GPU profiling, draw call reduction, shader complexity, Nanite/Lumen configuration for simulator use cases
• Implement dynamic weather, visibility, time-of-day, and atmospheric rendering that match real-world operational conditions
• Optimise for multi-GPU and multi-channel output (display, clustered rendering, edge blending)
Terrain, GIS & Environment
• Integrate georeferenced terrain data (DTED, GeoTIFF, OBJ/FBX exports) into UE5 with precision coordinate alignment
• Build high-fidelity airfields, landmarks, and operational area environments (real terrorist hide-outs) - accurate enough to be mission-critical
• Collaborate with GIS teams to sync terrain tile streaming with real-time sensor logic
Cockpit & HUD Systems
• Develop or integrate virtual cockpit instrument systems - MFDs, HUDs, FLIRs, EFIS panels - responding to live simulation state
• Build XR/VR overlay systems for immersive training scenarios, including physiological disorientation simulation (spatial disorientation, visual illusions)
• Interface with the Instructor Operating System (IOS) to inject real-time scenario triggers into the visual environment
Systems Integration & Collaboration
• Coordinate closely with embedded and simulation systems programmers for CIGI-IG and FDM-visual integration
• Work under tech leads to deliver modular, testable, maintainable UE5 plugin code
• Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and validation testing with system engineers
Tech Stack & Tools
• Engine: Unreal Engine 5 (Nanite, Lumen, nDisplay, Sequencer, UDS)
• Languages: C++ (primary), Blueprint (visual scripting support)
• Simulation Standards: CIGI SDK 3.3+ integration (FLAMES optional), DIS/HLA awareness beneficial
• Rendering: GPU profiling (RenderDoc, Unreal Insights), multi-channel output, VR/XR pipelines
• GIS / Terrain: DTED, GeoTIFF, Cesium for Unreal, World Partition terrain streaming
• Networking: UDP/TCP real-time data receive (CIGI, telemetry feeds)
• Source Control: Git, Perforce
• Other: JSON/XML config handlers, plugin architecture, multi-process IPC
Qualifications & Skills
Non-Negotiable
• 5+ years with Unreal Engine in a production environment — shipped titles, simulations, or real-time visualisation systems
• Strong C++ inside UE5 — you write engine-level code, not Blueprint wrappers
• Real-time rendering mindset: you understand the frame budget, the GPU pipeline, and what happens when you blow either
• Demonstrated ability to integrate external data streams into UE5 runtime (network, physics, IoT, hardware)
Strong Advantage
• Experience with CIGI or similar simulation image generator protocols
• Background with nDisplay or multi-channel dome/CAVE projection systems
• GIS terrain integration - coordinate systems, tile streaming, georeferenced environments
• Experience with flight simulators, serious games, or aerospace/defence visualisation
• Exposure to VR/XR headset and projection hybrid environments
How You Work
• Comfortable in a fast-moving startup where requirements evolve with geo-politics
• Strong multidisciplinary instincts — you can talk to a firmware engineer and a mechanical designer in the same meeting
• You build camaraderie, not silos
