QA Automation Lead Engineer
- The QE Lead owns the quality engineering strategy across one or more product streams. Beyond hands-on test automation delivery, this role defines the test architecture, sets quality standards, and leads a team of QE engineers end to end — from framework design and CI/CD integration through to stakeholder reporting and continuous improvement. The QE Lead is the primary quality voice in Agile delivery and cross-functional planning.
- 9 – 12 years: Total IT / software quality engineering experience
- 7+ years - Hands-on test automation & QE framework development
- 3+ years: QE lead, tech lead, or senior QA with team oversight
- Technical leadership & quality strategy
- Define and own the end-to-end quality engineering strategy, test architecture, and automation standards across all delivery streams
- Establish and enforce coding standards, framework patterns, and governance guidelines for the QE team
- Lead architectural decisions for scalable, maintainable test automation frameworks supporting multiple projects and applications
- Mentor and upskill a team of QE engineers through regular code reviews, pairing sessions, and structured knowledge sharing
- Serve as the primary escalation point for critical defects, test environment issues, and release-blocking quality risks
- Own the QE roadmap including tooling upgrades, AI/ML-assisted testing adoption, and framework evolution
- Test automation & framework development
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade automation frameworks using Java, Selenium, and Playwright across web applications and services
- Define and govern test automation coverage strategies including functional, regression, integration, and API testing
- Conduct comprehensive automation code reviews verifying completeness, coverage, reliability, reusability, and alignment with quality governance standards
- Drive adoption of Playwright for modern web testing, establishing patterns for cross-browser and cross-platform coverage
- Lead integration of ServiceNow (Now Platform) test automation into delivery pipelines including ATF (Automated Test Framework) strategy
- CI/CD & DevOps integration
- Own the integration of automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring fast feedback loops across build, integration, and release stages
- Define pipeline quality gates and test execution triggers for on-demand and release validation activities
- Champion shift-left testing practices in collaboration with development leads and DevOps engineers
- Continuously optimise pipeline test execution time, parallelisation, and flakiness resolution
- Quality metrics & stakeholder reporting
- Define and track quality KPIs including defect escape rate, test coverage, automation ratio, and mean time to detect
- Build and maintain quality dashboards in Tableau or Power BI for real-time visibility to engineering and business stakeholders
- Analyse test execution results, communicate defect trends, and provide risk-based release recommendations to leadership
- Prepare and present sprint and release quality reports, ensuring full traceability of defects, risks, and mitigation actions
- Agile delivery & cross-functional collaboration
- Represent the QE function in all Agile ceremonies — sprint planning, backlog grooming, stand-ups, and retrospectives — providing quality input from inception
- Partner with development teams, product owners, and ServiceNow architects to define acceptance criteria and testability requirements
- Facilitate test strategy and test plan reviews with cross-functional stakeholders prior to each release cycle
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across automation frameworks, testing processes, and team practices through retrospective actions
- AI & intelligent test automation
- Evaluate and pilot AI-assisted testing tools for self-healing locators, test generation, and anomaly detection
- Define the team's AI/automation tooling strategy and lead PoCs for intelligent quality engineering adoption
- Integrate AI-powered analytics into quality reporting workflows for predictive defect identification and risk assessment
