The SME is responsible for overseeing and managing the SME review/quality check process and providing guidance for the completion of cases in accordance with business requirements within the KYC/AML domain. The role requires the application of expertise, knowledge, and experience to ensure that files are completed in line with regulatory standards and that business processes and policies are consistently adhered to and correctly applied throughout the process. The SME is also responsible for managing the quality control process and the framework through which it is executed.

Educational qualifications

Bachelors Degree

Work experience

5 - 8 years of post-qualification experience with strong working knowledge on Sanction screening/AML/TM.
In-depth knowledge on banking operations procedures, risk management as well as regulatory compliance standards.

Mandatory technical & functional skills

Banking operations background demonstrating good core knowledge of applying Sanctions Screening analysis within a financial institution with 5-8 years of relevant experience.
Understand AML/Sanctions principles and how to apply within their day-to-day roles & responsibilities.
Good technical knowledge of KYC, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions.

Preferred technical & functional skills

CAMS/CFCS/CFE qualified, CA, CS or other professional qualification (optional, candidate with relevant additional qualification / certification will be given priority).

Provide advice on, and resolve, potential AML issues arising across business units and jurisdictions.
Serve as the primary point of contact for handling the team's queries and seek to resolve them before escalating matters to the client.
Actively participate in team huddles and ensure that SOPs and process exceptions are tracked and properly documented for future reference.
Prepare the QC checklist and review and calibrate the checklist in collaboration with the client-side QA team.
Periodic review of the QC checklist to ensure it is aligned to the regulatory compliance policy changes.
Ensure the QC checklist is adhered to by periodic review of the alerts/cases.
Report errors on a periodic basis to all relevant stakeholders.
Present written or verbal recommendations, supported by documented analysis, to persuade or challenge the business on recommended actions.
Drive process enhancement, identify and implement strategic improvements and enhancements to existing systems, policies and guidelines to reduce risk and improve efficiency
Conduct regular refresher AML trainings on operational procedures and changes in policies/ regulation.

Produce regular Quality/AML reports for various stakeholders.
