Mainframe DB2 - Application Development

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, maintain, and support mainframe applications using DB2 and COBOL technologies.
• Develop and optimize DB2 database programs, SQL queries, stored procedures, and batch processes.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Perform coding, unit testing, integration testing, and deployment activities.
• Develop and maintain online and batch applications using CICS, COBOL, and JCL.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis for application failures.
• Optimize DB2 SQL performance and improve application efficiency.
• Collaborate with business analysts, architects, QA teams, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards and best practices.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, design documents, and operational procedures.
• Support application modernization and enhancement initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Mainframe Development

• Strong experience in Mainframe Application Development.
• Expertise in:
  • COBOL
  • JCL (Job Control Language)
  • CICS
  • VSAM
  • File Processing
  • Batch Processing
• Experience working in large-scale enterprise mainframe environments.

DB2 Development

• Strong hands-on experience with IBM Db2 on Mainframe.
• Expertise in:
  • SQL Programming
  • DB2 Query Optimization
  • Stored Procedures
  • Cursors
  • Indexing Strategies
  • Database Performance Tuning
  • Database Design and Maintenance
• Experience troubleshooting DB2-related application issues.

Mainframe Tools & Utilities

• Experience with:
  • IBM z/OS
  • IBM SPUFI
  • IBM File Manager
  • Mainframe Debugging and Monitoring Tools
• Knowledge of source control and release management processes.

Additional Skills

• Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile development methodologies.
• Experience in production support, incident management, and problem resolution.
• Ability to analyze complex business processes and technical requirements.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to Mainframe modernization projects and integration with distributed systems.
• Experience with Web Services, APIs, and middleware integrations.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices in Mainframe environments.
• Familiarity with Banking, Financial Services, Insurance, Healthcare, or Retail domains.
• Relevant Mainframe or DB2 certifications are an added advantage.
