About the Role

The District Nursing service is a community-based healthcare service that provides professional nursing care to clients in their own homes, care homes, or other community settings. Its primary aim is to deliver safe, effective, and client centred care for individuals who may be housebound, have long-term conditions, are recovering from hospital treatment, or require end-of-life support.

The main purpose of a district nurse is to provide skilled nursing care and support to clients in their own homes or community. The aim is to promote independence, provide clinical care e.g. wound management, medication administration, palliative care and to prevent hospital admissions and facilitate early discharge. District Nurses support families and carers offering education and guidance, and coordinate care with other health services to ensure holistic, person-centred support.

Key Selection Criteria

Mandatory

• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.
• Minimum 3 years post graduate experience.
• Current, unsuspended and unrestricted drivers license.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in infection prevention & control, medication administration, wound management, urinary catheter insertion and stoma care.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in generalist Palliative care symptom management.
• Demonstrated ability to articulate clear decision-making processes and ability to work independently and without direct supervision.

Preferred

• Previous experience in community nursing.
• Completed Wound Resource Education Nurse (WREN) training.
