Position Summary :

The Senior Accountant is responsible for delivering high-quality accounting, taxation, and advisory services to National Accounts’ clients.

This role ensures all client financial records, statutory obligations, and tax lodgements are accurate, compliant, and strategically optimised, while supporting continuous improvement across systems, processes, and team capability.

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in protecting and growing clients’ financial futures through compliance, insight, and proactive tax strategy.

Key Requirements :

Demonstrated experience in an accounting role within an Australian accounting practice

Strong working knowledge of Australian taxation and compliance

Strong understanding of Australian tax law and accounting standards

High-level financial analysis and reporting capability

Technical Skills

Advanced proficiency in accounting software, including:

  • Xero
  • MYOB
  • NowInfinity
  • Class
  • Dext

Job Responsibility :

Review of Client Accounting Records

Review client bookkeeping files to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance

Verify Profit and Loss statements reflect true financial performance

Ensure GST has been correctly calculated, reported, and reconciled

Identify discrepancies, risks, or errors and ensure timely resolution

Provide feedback and guidance to Bookkeepers to maintain high-quality standards

Balance Sheet & Compliance Reconciliations

Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including:

  • GST
  • Payroll and superannuation
  • Loans and financing
  • ATO and statutory accounts

Investigate and resolve discrepancies efficiently

Ensure audit-ready records are maintained at all times

BAS / IAS Preparation & Lodgement

Prepare and lodge monthly and quarterly IAS/BAS accurately and on time

Ensure all relevant financial data is correctly captured and reported

Monitor statutory deadlines to avoid penalties

Provide clients with clear summaries and explanations of lodged activity statements

Annual Financial Statements & Tax Returns

Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards

Prepare and review business and personal income tax returns

Verify accuracy and completeness of all data prior to lodgement

Liaise with clients to obtain outstanding information and resolve queries

Ensure timely and compliant lodgement of all returns

Tax Planning & Minimisation

Identify and implement effective tax minimisation strategies tailored to client needs

Analyse client structures and financial positions to optimise outcomes

Provide advice on tax planning, structuring, and compliance matters

Stay current with Australian tax legislation and regulatory changes

Client Advisory & Query Resolution

Respond to accounting and tax-related client queries professionally and clearly

Translate complex accounting and tax matters into practical advice

Build strong, trusted client relationships

Proactively identify risks, opportunities, and improvement areas

Team Support & Collaboration

Provide technical guidance to Accountants, Bookkeepers, and Admin staff

Assist team members with complex accounting or tax issues

Contribute to a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing team culture

Share knowledge and best practices across the team

Process Improvement & Quality Assurance

I dentify opportunities to improve accounting and tax processes

Contribute to system improvements, workflow efficiencies, and SOP updates

Support implementation of new tools, platforms, and best practices

Participate in ongoing professional development

Secondary Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Payroll Support

Perform or review bookkeeping tasks where required

Support payroll processing, payroll tax, and WorkCover compliance

Assist with resolving payroll-related client queries

Interim Reporting

Prepare interim financial reports as required

Provide insights and commentary to support client decision-making

ASIC / ABR Administration

Manage ASIC and ABR records and updates

Assist clients with compliance-related queries and lodgements

Client Onboarding & Entity Setup

Support onboarding of new clients

Assist with new entity registrations and structural setup

Provide guidance on entity structures and compliance requirements
