About the Role:
Are you an experienced hospital pharmacist looking to join a surgical care team that values a team-based approach?
Canberra Health Services (CHS) is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking pharmacist to join our dynamic clinical pharmacy team on site at The Canberra Hospital.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a progressive division that values innovation, collaboration, and professional growth—while contributing directly to high-quality, patient-centred care. Whether you're looking to further develop your surgical experience or your hospital clinical skills in a surgical care area, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact in patient care while continuing to grow professionally.
Why Join Us?
Expanded Cutting-edge Facilities: The ACT Government has expanded the Canberra Hospital to deliver more emergency, surgical and critical care capacity for the ACT and surrounding region. The centrepiece of this project is the 43,000sqm Critical Services Building that has transformed the Canberra Hospital campus to meet the growing health needs of our community. The 36-bed critical care unit treats over 2,500 patients a year from Canberra and the surrounding NSW area. We are the only Level I trauma service south of Sydney. Our operating suite performs approximately 18,000 surgical procedures per year. This includes adult and paediatric patients who require elective, emergency or trauma related surgical procedures.
Professional Development: Access training and development resources to build your clinical skills and support your progression as a hospital pharmacist. The department runs a successful AdPha Accredited Residency Training Program, an excellent intern training program and is accredited for several Registrar Training Residency Programs, including critical care. At CHS you will get the opportunity to work alongside other experienced Surgical and ICU pharmacists to develop and learn from each other.
Surgical Rotations offered include the following:
•
Emergency General Surgery

Innovative Practice: Be part of a department that leads the way in enhancing scope of practice and different ways of working, such as credentialed accuracy checking technicians, Partnered Pharmacist Medication Charting and remote clinical pharmacy services implemented to enhance our onsite services. A strong, team-first environment where pharmacists at all levels are welcomed, supported, and given meaningful responsibility. You will join regular multidisciplinary ward rounds where pharmacists’ clinical observations and recommendations are actively sought and discussed alongside intensivists, nurses, and allied health.
What You’ll Gain
•
Opportunities to innovate, mentor, and shape the future of pharmacy practice.
•
Opportunities to contribute to departmental education and research. Frequent opportunities precept and provide guidance to rotational pharmacists in the division of surgery, interns and students.
