AV & SCCM (Patch) Monitoring – Roles & Responsibilities

1. Antivirus (AV) Monitoring Responsibilities

Daily Monitoring

  • Monitor AV console/dashboard for:Malware detectionsThreat alertsQuarantined filesAV service failuresOutdated signatures
  • Ensure all endpoints are reporting to the central AV console.
  • Track inactive/non-communicating systems.
  • Incident Handling

  • Investigate malware or virus alerts.
  • Isolate infected systems when required.
  • Coordinate with desktop/network/security teams for remediation.
  • Ensure proper closure and documentation of incidents.
  • Signature & Policy Management

  • Verify AV definitions/signatures are updated successfully.
  • Monitor policy deployment status across endpoints.
  • Ensure exclusions and policies are aligned with security standards.
  • Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain AV compliance percentage across locations/business units.
  • Share daily/weekly health reports:Systems protectedNon-compliant devicesCritical threats detectedRemediation status
  • Highlight repeated infections or high-risk devices.
  • Escalation Management

  • Escalate:Critical malware outbreaksMass infection patternsAV server/service failuresCompliance breaches
  • 2. SCCM / Patch Monitoring Responsibilities

    Patch Deployment Monitoring

  • Monitor patch deployment status through SCCM:Successful installationsFailed deploymentsPending rebootsMissing patches
  • Track deployment progress for servers and endpoints.
  • Compliance Monitoring

  • Ensure systems meet patch compliance targets.
  • Identify vulnerable/unpatched machines.
  • Follow up with respective teams/users for remediation.
  • Deployment Validation

  • Validate:Patch package distributionSCCM client healthDistribution point availabilityDeployment schedules
  • Ensure no deployment failures due to storage/network issues.
  • Incident & Failure Handling

  • Analyze failed patch installations.
  • Troubleshoot SCCM client issues.
  • Coordinate with Infra/Application teams for patch conflicts or failures.
  • Re-initiate failed deployments where required.
  • Reporting & Documentation

  • Publish daily/weekly/monthly reports:Patch compliance %Failed systemsReboot pending countCritical security patches status
  • Maintain deployment trackers and audit records.
  • Change & Maintenance Support

  • Support patching activities during maintenance windows.
  • Ensure proper communication before and after patch deployment.
  • Monitor production impact during patch rollout.
  • Escalation Management

  • Escalate:Critical patch failuresCompliance breachesSCCM infrastructure issuesSystems repeatedly missing patchesSecurity vulnerabilities
