Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure / Network Consultant with extensive experience in data center environments to support a short-term assessment and remediation planning engagement for a client in the UK.
The ideal consultant will be able to independently walk into a client data center environment, lead discovery sessions, ask the right technical and operational questions, collect and analyze infrastructure information, identify risks and gaps, and produce a detailed assessment report with a practical remediation roadmap.
This is expected to run for approximately four weeks, including up to one week of onsite travel to the United Kingdom.
Key Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive assessment of the client’s data center infrastructure, including network, compute, storage, connectivity, resilience, security posture, operational processes, and overall architecture.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead onsite and remote discovery activities with client technical and business stakeholders.
- Assess current-state data center infrastructure, including network architecture, routing, switching, firewalls, load balancers, WAN/LAN connectivity, cabling, rack layouts, compute, storage, virtualization, backup, and monitoring.
- Review existing documentation, network diagrams, configuration standards, operational procedures, and support processes.
- Conduct stakeholder interviews to understand business requirements, pain points, risks, constraints, and future-state goals.
- Identify infrastructure gaps, risks, performance concerns, availability issues, security weaknesses, and operational inefficiencies.
- Evaluate data center resiliency, redundancy, failover capabilities, disaster recovery readiness, and scalability.
- Document findings clearly and translate technical observations into business impact.
- Develop a detailed assessment report, including current-state findings, risk ratings, prioritized recommendations, and a remediation plan.
- Provide a practical roadmap for short-term, medium-term, and long-term improvements.
- Present assessment findings and recommendations to client leadership and technical teams.
Expected Deliverables:
The consultant will be expected to produce the following deliverables:
- Discovery questionnaire and interview notes.
- Current-state infrastructure assessment.
- Data center network and infrastructure findings summary.
- Risk and gap analysis.
- Prioritized remediation plan.
- Recommended target-state improvements.
- Executive summary suitable for business stakeholders.
- Detailed technical assessment report.
- Final readout presentation to the client.
Required skills and experience:
- 10+ years of experience in infrastructure, networking, data center engineering, or infrastructure consulting.
- Strong hands-on experience assessing enterprise data center environments.
- Deep knowledge of network architecture, routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing, WAN/LAN, VPN, segmentation, and high availability.
- Experience with enterprise data center technologies such as Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, F5, VMware, Dell, HPE, NetApp, Pure Storage, or similar platforms.
- Ability to review configurations, diagrams, infrastructure layouts, and operational processes.
- Strong understanding of data center best practices, including redundancy, resilience, security, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Experience conducting infrastructure discovery, assessments, gap analysis, and remediation planning.
- Ability to work independently in ambiguous client environments with limited documentation.
- Strong consulting skills, including stakeholder interviewing, requirements gathering, documentation, and executive communication.
- Excellent written communication skills, with proven experience creating detailed technical reports and remediation roadmaps.
- Ability to travel internationally to the United Kingdom for approximately one week.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience performing data center assessments, modernization assessments, or infrastructure health checks.
- Experience with hybrid cloud connectivity, cloud migration readiness, or data center consolidation.
- Familiarity with compliance, security, and operational frameworks such as ITIL, NIST, ISO 27001, or CIS.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, VCP, ITIL, AWS/Azure networking, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in fixed-bid consulting engagements.
- Valid passport and ability to travel to the UK on short notice.
Travel Requirements:
This role requires international travel to the United Kingdom for approximately one week during the engagement. The consultant must be able to meet all applicable travel and entry requirements.
Ideal Cadidate Profile:
The ideal candidate is a senior-level infrastructure and network consultant who is comfortable entering a client environment, quickly understanding the current state, asking the right discovery questions, identifying technical and operational risks, and producing a clear, actionable remediation plan.
This person should be equally comfortable speaking with engineers, infrastructure managers, security teams, and executive stakeholders.
