Mainframe Developer
Job Description
Role Description:
o The Developer will be responsible for developing new system functionality,
o providing system maintenance & enhancements in Mainframe projects to ensure
o that the initiatives and internal customers are provided full lifecycle support, from
o implementation through on-going support. This person will be responsible for
o coding, unit testing, bug-fixes a day-to-day basis.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
o Adhere to security and control, and change control processes
o Design, develop and maintain Mainframe Cobol and DB2 stored procedures to meet support and/or project requirements.
o Interface with business and IT teams to understand business requirements and translate business requirements into formal technical requirements and application code
o Work with IT support teams (DBA, server teams) to ensure support and project requirements are developed and successfully implemented
o Develop and execute unit test and integration plans/scripts to validate that application changes meet technical specifications.
o Responsible for full System Development Life Cycle
o Work with business team to complete acceptance testing and participate in integration testing
o Participate in production support/ duty rotation including weekend and off-hour support coverage
o Provide Solution Delivery Methodology artefacts associated with application components.
o Participate in technical reviews at appropriate stages of development
Key Competencies & Skills required
Technical Skills:
o COBOL, DB2, JCL, SQL
o Good Knowledge of Endevor(optional) and BMC Compuware ISPW (mandatory), Quick3270, ALM tools, CVS or similar Code Vault
o Has some background in DB Modelling
o IT technical background & mainframe programming experience
o Experience in all components of software delivery with concentration in requirements, design and development.
o Quick starter to troubleshoot/resolve incidents and business support items
o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (e.g. Knowledge of debugging, defect analysis und defect solving)
o Ability to multi-task effectively
o Prioritize Business Impact and Urgency
o Perform application support tasks like: systems support, security reviews, & maintenance tasks
o Testing experience
o Ability to learn new technologies and methodologies quickly
Nice to have:
o Knowledge of REXX, VBA, IMS/DC, Jira, Xray
o Exposure to collaboration tools like SharePoint, Fileshare
o Experience with insurance processes in insurance lines, especially health
o Knowledge about Test Tools (e.g. HP ALM) and BMC Tool Incident Management

Previous Experience & Qualifications
Minimum Educational Qualification:
o Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science /Engineering/Information Technology
o Candidate with non-computer science degree must have minimum 1 year of relevant experience
o MBA in IT / Insurance/Finance can also apply for Requirements Engineer and Test Engineer role.
Certification if any:
o NA
Years Experience & Knowledge:
o Previous Mainframe Development background in design, analysis and coding, bug fixing
o Financial Services background appreciated
o COBIT / ITIL experience appreciated
o Experience of working within multi-location teams
