Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist the onshore tax team with managing the tax compliance function for hedge funds and mutual funds

  • Coordinate with accounting firms on various tax deliverables and ensure the deliverables calendars are followed

  • Review and document review of the tax returns and related workpapers for hedge funds and mutual funds (Form 0-RIC and related schedules)

  • Review and document review of the monthly tax estimates workpapers for a subset of hedge funds (Form 5, Schedule K-1)

  • Review and document review of the annual tax estimates workpapers for hedge funds and mutual funds

  • Review and document review of various other tax deliverables PFIC statements, FBAR returns, Forms 2, Form 1, various mutual funds’ deliverables etc.)

  • Complete documentation of the tax deliverables review following the oversight procedures and timely communicate the exceptions noted

  • Maintain and update the existing review procedures and ensure all the latest updates are captured

  • Prepare additional supporting workpapers and reconciliation schedules to assist with the review of tax deliverables

  • Perform scenario analysis based on various tax hypotheticals

  • Navigate through tax data and find reporting solutions to various requests from internal and external stakeholders

  • Create custom reports to model the impact of different factors to current and potential investors tax profile

  • Develop sound understanding of the data lineage behind various reports in order to meet evolving needs of internal and external stakeholders


  • Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of taxation of hedge funds

  • Knowledge of taxation of mutual funds is a plus

  • In-depth understanding of financial instruments and their taxation

  • Must be highly organized, with excellent multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritize activities effectively

  • Must be comfortable making decisions on work product design and analysis - High attention to details

  • Excellent command of the English language - oral and written

  • Strong analytical, technical and research skills

  • Can work with minimal supervision and deliver high quality output

  • Must be proactive, motivated and team player

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly MS Excel


  • Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

  • Certified Public Accountant

  • 5+ years of tax experience within asset management industry - Knowledge of partnership and corporate taxation - Knowledge of taxation of hedge funds

  • Knowledge of taxation of mutual funds is an advantage
