Job Description

Job Description: Academic Counsellor — B.Tech Admissions

Role: Academic Counsellor (B.Tech)

Institution: Kingston College of Advanced Engineering & Management (KCAEM)

Location: Barasat, Kolkata — 700126

Industry: Education Management / Higher Education

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

KCAEM is seeking a motivated and empathetic Academic Counsellor to guide prospective B.Tech students and their families through the admissions journey. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of engineering education, entrance examinations (WBJEE / JEE Main), and career pathways in technology — and will be passionate about helping first-generation learners and aspiring engineers find the right programme. You will be the first meaningful point of contact between a student and KCAEM, and your role is central to shaping their future.

Key Responsibilities

Student & Parent Counseling:

Guide students and parents through the KCAEM admissions process — explaining the four B.Tech programmes (CSE, CSE AI&ML, Electronics & Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering), eligibility criteria, WBJEE/JEE Main counselling rounds, fee structure, scholarship schemes, and career prospects in detail.

Lead Management:

Source, track, and diligently follow up on prospective leads via calls, WhatsApp, emails, and walk-in interactions. Maintain a healthy and well-documented pipeline at all stages of the admissions funnel.

Admissions Targets:

Achieve monthly and quarterly admission targets by effectively addressing student queries, resolving concerns, and closing counselling cycles in a timely manner.

Scholarship & Financial Guidance:

Actively assist students in identifying and applying for applicable government scholarships (Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means, SC/ST/OBC Post-Matric, Central Sector Scheme) and education loan schemes — in coordination with the Student Financial Guidance Centre.

Relationship Building:

Maintain a warm, consistent relationship with prospective students from first contact through to enrolment and orientation — acting as a trusted guide at every step.

Market & Programme Awareness:

Stay current on MAKAUT counselling schedules, WBJEE/JEE Main updates, AICTE guidelines, competitor institutions, and industry trends in engineering and technology education.

CRM & Record Management:

Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all student interactions, follow-ups, feedback, and pipeline status in the institutional CRM. Generate reports as required by the Admissions Manager.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree in any discipline. Candidates with a background in engineering, education, or counselling will be preferred.

Experience: 1–3 years of experience in academic counselling, B.Tech/engineering admissions, educational sales, or student relationship management. Exceptional freshers with strong communication skills will also be considered.

Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with the WBJEE and JEE Main process, MAKAUT affiliation, and the engineering education landscape in West Bengal is a strong advantage.

Communication: Fluent in Bengali, English & Hindi — both verbal and written. Ability to explain complex academic and financial information in simple, reassuring language.

Interpersonal Skills: High degree of empathy, patience, and persuasion. Comfortable engaging with students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, including first-generation learners.

Tech Proficiency: Comfortable with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and CRM tools. Familiarity with WhatsApp Business and digital lead management is a plus.

What We Offer

Competitive salary with attractive performance-based incentives tied to monthly admissions targets.

A vibrant, supportive, and mission-driven work environment focused on student access and success.

Opportunities for rapid career advancement within the Kingston Educational Institute group.

The satisfaction of directly shaping the futures of aspiring engineers — many of whom are the first in their families to pursue higher education.
