Websphere Admin
Job Title: WebSphere & Middleware Administrator
Job Overview
We are looking for a Senior WebSphere Administrator to manage and optimize our enterprise middleware environment. You will be responsible for the health, security, and scalability of both traditional WebSphere (tWAS) and WebSphere Liberty instances. In this role, you will bridge the gap between legacy infrastructure and modern cloud-native deployments, leveraging automation (Ansible/Terraform) and container platforms (OpenShift) to ensure 24/7 application availability.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, and maintain IBM WebSphere Application Server (ND & Base) and WebSphere Liberty in high-availability (clustered) environments.
Modernization: Lead the migration of legacy applications from traditional WAS to WebSphere Liberty and containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes).
Automation: Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Ansible, Jython/Python, or Terraform to automate environment provisioning and patching.
Performance Tuning: Perform deep-tier troubleshooting, including Java heap dump analysis, thread dump analysis, and GC (Garbage Collection) tuning to resolve performance bottlenecks.
Security: Manage SSL/TLS certificate lifecycles, configure LTPA tokens, and implement security hardening based on IBM and industry best practices.
Support: Provide Level 3 production support, including participation in an on-call rotation for mission-critical e-commerce or financial systems.
Collaboration: Work closely with DevOps teams to integrate WebSphere deployments into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps).
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: [X] years in Middleware Administration, specifically with IBM WebSphere 8.5.5/9.0.x and Liberty.
Operating Systems: Expert knowledge of Linux (RHEL/CentOS) and AIX; comfortable with shell scripting (Bash).
Automation/Scripting: Proficiency in Jython/wsadmin for traditional WAS and Ansible for configuration management.
Cloud & Containers: Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or IBM Cloud Pak for Applications (OpenShift).
Networking: Understanding of Load Balancers (F5), IBM HTTP Server (Client/Apache), and Firewalls.
Monitoring: Experience with tools like AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Splunk, or ELK Stack for proactive system health monitoring.
Preferred "Bonus" Skills
IBM WebSphere Automation: Experience using IBM's "WebSphere Automation" tool for automated CVE/vulnerability tracking.
Messaging: Experience with IBM MQ administration (Queue Managers, Channels, Listeners).
Certifications: IBM Certified System Administrator (WAS) or Red Hat Certified Specialist in Containers.
