Senior/Consultant - Power BI
Role summary
- We are seeking a hands-on Senior/Consultant-level BI professional to design, build, and optimize internal analytics solutions using Power BI, DAX, robust data modeling, and Power Query, with supporting skills in T-SQL/Spark SQL (Databricks) and Azure Data Lake (ADLS). The role requires excellent communication, strong stakeholder management, advanced Excel, and good knowledge of AI prompting to accelerate analysis, documentation, and solution delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end delivery of internal Power BI solutions: requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, deployment, and support
- Build efficient semantic models and dimensional schemas; define relationships, hierarchies, and calculation logic; enforce data model governance
- Develop advanced DAX measures and calculations; optimize model performance and report responsiveness (VertiPaq, aggregation strategies)
- Perform data shaping and transformation using Power Query (M), parameters, and dataflows; implement incremental refresh
- Write and optimize intermediate T-SQL and Spark SQL (Databricks) for dataset preparation, joins, aggregations, and window functions
- Integrate and manage data from Azure Data Lake (ADLS Gen2), including folder/partition design, security, and access patterns for analytics
- Apply BI visualization, UX, and storytelling best practices to deliver clear, actionable dashboards and reports for internal stakeholders
- Implement and manage security and governance (workspace management, RLS/OLS, permissions, deployment pipelines)
- Collaborate with data engineers/architects on data models, data quality, and performance tuning across the stack
- Drive stakeholder engagement internally: translate business questions into analytical solutions, facilitate UAT, and communicate insights to technical and non-technical audiences
- Utilize AI prompting to accelerate development and documentation (e.g., crafting effective prompts for generating DAX scaffolding, Power Query patterns, test cases, release notes, user guides); maintain prompt libraries and guidelines
- Proficient with enterprise AI assistants (Microsoft Copilot family, Azure OpenAI, Claude, Gemini) to accelerate DAX/Power Query scaffolding, documentation, testing, and stakeholder communications.
- Hands-on experience designing AI agents/bots to automate BI workflows (e.g., requirements triage, data quality checks, semantic model documentation, KPI alerts) with secure tool/function-calling.
- Good exposure to agentic AI patterns (planning, tool-use, memory, reflection) and RAG over internal analytics assets (data dictionary, semantic models, wiki), with strong focus on Responsible AI, governance, and cost/latency optimization.
- Document solutions, standards, and operating procedures; contribute to reusable templates and accelerators
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement of delivery methods and quality
Required qualifications and experience
- Education and experience:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent): 5+ years of relevant BI/analytics experience
- Master's/Postgraduate degree: 4+ years of relevant BI/analytics experience
- Technical skills:
- Advanced Power BI (data modeling, report design, dataset management, performance optimization)
- Advanced DAX and dimensional data modeling (star schema design, calculation optimization)
- Power Query (M) for data transformation and shaping
- Intermediate T-SQL and Spark SQL for Databricks (joins, CTEs, window functions, query performance basics)
- Azure Data Lake (ADLS Gen2): structure/partition design, permissions, integration with Databricks/Power BI
- Advanced Excel (Power Query/Power Pivot, complex formulas, pivots, data analysis features)
- Good knowledge of AI prompting and prompt patterns to enhance BI/analytics workflows
- Core competencies:
