Job Description - Technical Lead, Observability (SG Observability Platform)

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Lead - Observability who can understand the diverse observability needs of development, network, and IT operations teams. This role involves partnering with internal stakeholders to understand their telemetry, monitoring, and troubleshooting requirements and guiding them to adopt the right features within the SG Observability product. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in observability tooling, a customercentric mindset, and the ability to drive onboarding and solution design endtoend.


Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements Discovery

  • Collaborate with development, network engineering, SRE, infrastructure, and IT operations teams to understand their observability use cases, workflows, and pain points.
  • Conduct discovery sessions to map user needs to the appropriate capabilities of the SG Observability platform.
  • Translate user requirements into actionable onboarding plans and observability configurations.

Technical Leadership & Solution Design

  • Recommend the right combination of logs, metrics, traces, events, dashboards, alerting, and analytics features based on user personas and technical contexts.
  • Design endtoend observability architectures aligned with application, network, and infrastructure topologies.
  • Provide guidance on instrumentation best practices (OpenTelemetry, agents, SDKs, integrations, exporters, etc.).
  • Encourage standardized observability patterns that scale across teams.

Onboarding & Implementation Support

  • Assist teams through onboarding to the SG Observability product including integrations, data onboarding, dashboard setup, and alert configuration.
  • Troubleshoot datacollection or visualization issues alongside engineering when necessary.
  • Provide handson help for critical or complex onboarding scenarios.

Advocacy, Training & Documentation

  • Conduct workshops, demos, and technical enablement sessions for new teams.
  • Create reference architectures, onboarding guides, and bestpractice documentation.
  • Act as a bridge between users and product engineering by providing insights to improve product features and user experience.

CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Work closely with product managers, platform engineering, and backend teams to influence roadmap and feature prioritization.
  • Participate in customer validation, pilot onboarding, and POC (Proof of Concept) rollouts.
  • Advocate for reliability, scalability, and performance enhancements within the observability ecosystem.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 6 years of experience in Observability, SRE, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Strong understanding of modern observability stacks-OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Datadog, New Relic, etc.
  • Handson experience with logs, metrics, traces, distributed tracing, APM, network monitoring, and alerting ecosystems.
  • Experience onboarding applications, microservices, APIs, and network devices into an observability platform.
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and modern application architectures (microservices, containers, Kubernetes).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholdermanagement skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale observability platforms or internal enterprise observability products.
  • Familiarity with network telemetry protocols (SNMP, NetFlow, sFlow, IPFIX).
  • Knowledge of backend engineering fundamentals, data pipelines, or ingestion architectures.
  • Ability to create demos, training content, and technical documentation.
  • Certifications in cloud or observability tools (optional but beneficial).
