    Our client is a large listed organisation in the retail and real estate segment based in Mumbai and having presence across Group Head - Litigation & Corporate Law will play a pivotal role in:

    · Building and leading a strong, independent litigation vertical

    · Driving strategic thinking and solution-oriented approaches across matters

    · Providing depth, leadership, and decision support to the General Counsel and promoters

    · Creating systems, processes, and counsel networks that reduce risk, cost, and reputational exposure

    · Handling complex legacy disputes and high-stakes matters with maturity and sound judgment

    Job Description

    Key Responsibilities

    1. High-Value & Strategic Litigation

  • Lead and strategically manage complex, high-value litigation and arbitration involving land acquisition, title disputes, lenders, investors, government authorities, joint venture partners, and other counterparties.
  • Provide clear, commercially sound advice to the General Counsel and promoters on risk assessment, settlement options, and litigation outcomes.


  • 2. Land Acquisition & Real Estate Litigation

  • Handle large-scale, sensitive, and complicated land acquisition matters, including title disputes, encroachments, right-of-way issues, rehabilitation matters, and challenges from authorities or third parties.
  • Interface with government departments, development authorities, and regulatory bodies on land-related disputes and proceedings.


  • 3. Financial & High-Exposure Disputes

  • Oversee litigation and arbitration relating to funding arrangements, structured finance, lender disputes, investor claims, and contractual defaults.
  • Closely monitor legal spend, case progress, and exposure across matters with material financial implications.


  • 4. Customer Litigation & Reputation Management

  • Lead legal strategy for customer disputes, consumer forum cases, regulatory complaints, class actions, and project-related litigation.
  • Drive early resolution, mediation, and settlement frameworks to minimize escalation, delays, and reputational risk.
  • Work closely with sales, CRM, operations, and project teams to identify root causes of disputes and implement preventive legal solutions to reduce repeat litigation.


  • 5. Litigation Strategy & Governance

  • Develop, recommend, and periodically review litigation strategy options across businesses, ensuring consistency and alignment with Group objectives.
  • Establish robust litigation tracking, reporting, and escalation mechanisms for senior management review.
  • Supervise and manage a portfolio of external counsels, senior advocates, and law firms, ensuring quality, accountability, and cost discipline.


  • 6. Regulatory, Compliance & Troubleshooting

  • Handle complex issues involving regulatory authorities, inspections, show-cause notices, legal notices, complaints, and interactions with law enforcement agencies.
  • Troubleshoot legal issues across business verticals, including employment-related disputes and internal investigations, as required.


  • 7. Legal Advisory Support

  • Provide advisory support on stamp duty, registration, tenancy laws, property-related statutes, and interpretation of applicable laws, contracts, and agreements.
  • Support the General Counsel on critical legal risk assessments impacting transactions, project timelines, and investments.

  • Deep expertise in real estate litigation, land acquisition, and high-value commercial disputes
  • Strong strategic thinking with a commercial and promoter-centric mindset
  • Ability to manage sensitive matters involving regulators, courts, senior advocates, and government authorities
  • Excellent negotiation, judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Strong leadership capability to manage teams and external counsel networks
  • High integrity, discretion, and resilience in pressure situations


  • Experience & Qualifications

  • 15-20+ years of litigation experience, preferably with substantial exposure to large real estate groups, infrastructure companies, or top-tier law firms
  • Extensive hands-on experience before High Courts, Supreme Court, NCLT, consumer forums, and arbitration tribunals
  • Law degree from a reputed institution; enrolment with the Bar Council of India
