Deputy Manager - SCADA Design & Engineering
Role Overview:
This role is responsible for leading the engineering design, deployment, and lifecycle management of SCADA and control systems across renewable energy assets, including Solar PV, Wind, BESS, Hybrid plants, and Substation Automation Systems. It calls for strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and effective coordination with both internal teams and external stakeholders. The position ensures the design, development, and implementation of SCADA solutions delivered by qualified vendors for projects in India and abroad, spanning all phases from engineering through to post-commissioning handover. It also drives regulatory and technological monitoring to anticipate industry advancements and integrate enhancements that strengthen system performance and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the SCADA Engineering team and coordinate with project stakeholders.
- Review and validate SCADA system architecture, SLDs, tag lists, and data models from EPC contractors and OEMs against ENGIE standards.
- Assess OT network designs and communication protocols including IEC 104, IEC 61850, Modbus, OPC, and DNP3.
- Support and lead FAT and SAT activities ensuring data accuracy, tag integrity, and telemetry performance.
- Prepare SCADA technical specifications and tender documentation for PV, Wind, BESS, Hybrid plants, and substations.
- Define operational and reporting interfaces including alarms, events, KPIs, and performance metrics.
- Participate in all project phases including technical workshops, reviews, coordination meetings, and commissioning activities.
- Support tendering activities by managing clarifications, deviations, and technical dossiers.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Electrical Engineering, IT, Performance, and external suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
Product & Technology Development
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for supervision and control systems.
- Collaborate with IT teams on SCADA-related infrastructure upgrades and cybersecurity improvements.
- Participate in qualification and onboarding of new SCADA vendors.
- Support performance optimization initiatives including PPC logic, tracking systems, and soiling management.
- Propose and execute pilot projects or proof-of-concept initiatives.
- Share lessons learned and collaborate with ENGIE Group teams on global SCADA solutions.
- Organize workshop on new PV plant technologies (BESS, hybrid solutions, etc.) and in the optic of their future implementation / integration in SCADA systems
- Organize workshop with Research Control & Development team to optimize solutions in terms of performance and availability of plants (specific algorithms etc.)
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (BE/BTech or equivalent, full-time).
- 10–12 years of relevant experience in industrial engineering and construction environments, preferably in renewable energy.
- Hands-on experience with large EPC projects and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Experience with grid codes, project controls, scheduling, and change management.
- Certification in project management methodologies (PMP/PMI) is an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in SCADA engineering documentation including SLDs, point lists, relay schemes, and architecture drawings.
- In-depth knowledge of OT communication protocols and cybersecurity principles.
- Experience with Power Plant Controllers (PPC) and country-specific regulatory requirements.
- Exposure to BESS integration, hybrid plant control logic, and storage SCADA systems.
- Working knowledge of Python, Power BI, and digital or AI-based integrations.
