Biomedical Manager

1. Job Purpose

To lead and manage the Biomedical Engineering function at Reliance Foundation Hospital by ensuring safe, reliable, and costeffective operation of all medical equipment in compliance with NABH/JCI standards. This includes equipment planning, procurement support, installation, preventive and corrective maintenance, vendor management, safety audits, and lifecycle management to enable high-quality patient care and clinical outcomes.


2. Accountabilities

1. Biomedical Equipment Management

  • Oversee installation, calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair of all medical equipment across clinical departments.
  • Ensure uptime reliability, service quality, and reduction in breakdown frequency.
  • Maintain complete equipment history logs as mandated by NABH/JCI.

2. Compliance, Safety & Documentation

  • Ensure biomedical engineering operations comply with NABH, JCI, AERB, and local statutory regulations.
  • Conduct periodic safety audits, electrical/biomedical checks, and risk assessments.
  • Maintain auditready documentation including AMCs/CMCs, calibration certificates, breakdown reports, and quality assurance records.

3. Procurement & Technology Management

  • Support technical evaluation for procurement of new medical equipment.
  • Coordinate with Purchase, Finance, and User Departments for capex planning and vendor finalization.
  • Lead equipment acceptance testing, installation, and commissioning.
  • Drive technology upgrades and assess equipment obsolescence.

4. Vendor & Contract Management

  • Manage AMCs, CMCs, warranty tracking, and vendor performance.
  • Negotiate service contracts and ensure adherence to SLAs.
  • Monitor service quality, cost controls, and timely completion of maintenance activities.

5. Team Leadership & Operations Management

  • Lead, develop, and mentor the biomedical engineering team.
  • Ensure 247 response readiness for critical equipment.
  • Coordinate closely with clinical heads, nursing, operations, and quality teams.

6. Budgeting & Cost Optimization

  • Prepare and manage annual biomedical budgets (capex and opex).
  • Identify costsaving opportunities through repair vs. replace decisions, contract optimization, and efficient resource utilization.

4. Experience & Educational Requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Necessary: B.E./B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering / Electronics / Instrumentation
  • Desirable: M.Tech / Certification in Medical Equipment Management, Hospital Engineering, or Healthcare Quality

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

  • Necessary: 812 years of biomedical engineering experience in a tertiary care hospital (minimum 300 beds)
  • Desirable: Experience in NABH/JCI-accredited hospital setup, experience in team leadership, experience handling highend critical care equipment
