Senior Frontend Engineer (Marketplace Rewrite)

Job Summary

Our client - a fast growing hospitality marketplace , is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to serve as the technical cornerstone for their Marketplace web architecture overhaul.

In this role, you will spearhead the reconstruction of our highest-traffic user journeys and establish the foundational frontend standards and patterns that will guide our team for years to come. This is a Senior-level position with a scope that leans toward Staff.

Location: In-person 4 days a week (Monday through Thursday) at our vibrant New York City headquarters.

Compensation: very attractive base salary plus benefits & equity, scaled to your experience level.

Responsibilities

• Drive Key Initiatives: Take end-to-end ownership of major features on our highest-volume surfaces—focusing initially on Search Results (SRP) and Details (DLP)—with a sharp focus on optimizing Core Web Vitals, conversion rates, and SEO.
• Lead Technical Design: Author RFCs and technical design documents for complex changes, cultivate alignment across Product and Design teams, and make smart, practical architectural trade-offs.
• Establish Core Patterns: Design and deploy reusable architectural patterns within a Next.js App Router environment, spanning routing, data fetching, caching, component structures, error handling, and analytics tracking.
• Elevate Engineering Quality: Champion high standards through robust code reviews and technical guidelines, mentoring a growing, junior-leaning team to help them level up.
• Optimize Developer Velocity: Refine our internal tooling and development practices, including our Playwright testing strategy, Datadog observability, and CI pipeline efficiency.
• Collaborate Across Stack: Work closely with backend engineers to define API contracts that maximize frontend performance and development speed.

Tech Stack

• Frontend: Next.js (App Router), React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui.
• Testing: Playwright.
• Observability: Datadog.
• Backend Architecture: Ruby on Rails and Node.js deployed on AWS, backed by Postgres and MongoDB.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience engineering production-grade web applications (or equivalent senior-level engineering mastery).
• Deep React Expertise: Comprehensive command of modern frontend architectures, with specific experience in Next.js-style SSR/SPA hybrids.
• Proven Track Record: Experience leading major migrations or full code rewrites for high-traffic platforms, delivering quantifiable improvements in SEO, Core Web Vitals, reliability, and conversion.
• Strong Technical Judgement: Comfort navigating ambiguity, with the ability to steer complex projects from early scoping through deployment and post-launch evaluation.
• High Technical Bar: A disciplined approach to automated testing, an observability-first mindset, and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable code.
• Leadership & Mentorship: A natural ability to elevate the capabilities of surrounding engineers through clear communication and supportive technical leadership.
