Key responsibilities:
Automation development: Create and maintain scripts and programs (using languages like Bash, Python, or Perl) to automate the provisioning, configuration, deployment, and management of UNIX servers and applications. Configuration management: Implement and manage configuration management systems (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) to ensure consistency across the server environment. CI/CD pipelines: Design and implement Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to automate the build and deployment of infrastructure and applications. Collaboration: Work with other IT teams, including network, security, and development, to support various projects and improve overall infrastructure efficiency. Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, architectural diagrams, and operational procedures.
Technical expertise:
Operating systems: Extensive, hands-on experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems, such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu, and AIX. Scripting languages: Strong proficiency in scripting for automation, including Bash, Python, or Perl. Automation tools: Experience with modern automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef. IaC tools: Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform. CI/CD: Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitHub Actions. Containers and virtualization: Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Cloud platforms: Knowledge of and experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP is often preferred. Version control: Proficiency with version control systems like Git. Problem-solving abilities: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex system and application issues. Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and to create clear documentation.
Experience:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and several years of experience in UNIX/Linux system administration, with a focus on automation, is typically required.
