In fact, your work enables our teams to deliver fresh fruit, time-sensitive healthcare products and much more to people all around the world. Working in IT at Kuehne+Nagel contributes to more than we imagine.

As a data engineer within our Contract Logistics Global Reporting team, you will implement and evolve modern data archietcture and pipelines that provide the source-of-truth data regarding shipments across the company. Working within an established BI landscape and driving the evolution towards a cloud-native stack centred on Dagster, dbt, Snowflake, and AWS, you will ensure that data flows reliably from diverse source systems into curated data products, fitting the needs of a data-driven logistics enterprise. You will ensure cloud-based infrastructure is utilised as efficiently as possible across data science products and projects, enabling downstream BI consumers and analysts to make timely, data-driven decisions.

How you create impact

  • Implement and model analytical output ports for our data products, ensuring they are discoverable and consumable across domains
  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines using Dagster as the primary orchestration framework, progressively modernising existing ETL workflows
  • Build and manage data transformation layers using dbt, ensuring well-tested, documented, and version-controlled models
  • Ensure proper operation and evolution of data models and resulting data sets, maintaining them as the source of truth for shipment data
  • Architect and optimise Snowflake data warehouse structures including schemas, tables, views, and materialisation strategies
  • Provision and manage AWS infrastructure components supporting the data platform (S3, Lambda, IAM, EC2, etc.)
  • Build and operate data-centric infrastructure in collaboration with DevOps specialists
  • Integrate data from a variety of source systems including logistics and supply chain platforms (e.g. TMS, WMS, ERP) as well as Oracle and PostgreSQL databases
  • Provide an analytics and data quality focused perspective to existing shipping data products
  • Evaluate new tools and technologies to enhance the data platform landscape
  • Work alongside the existing BI development team to understand current ETL processes and data models, ensuring continuity during platform modernisation
  • Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting across pipeline stages
  • Collaborate with reporting analysts and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver appropriate models
  • Maintain CI/CD workflows for data pipeline code and infrastructure-as-code deployments, complementing existing Jenkins-based automation where appropriate
  • Contribute to data governance practices including cataloguing, lineage tracking, and documentation
  • Support and troubleshoot production data issues, performing root cause analysis and remediation
