Job Title : Speech Language Pathologist


JOB PURPOSE

To work with patients who have problems with Speech, Language, communication, voice, fluency and swallowing disorders / Dysphagia.


RESPONSIBILITIES

When diagnosing patients, speech-language typically do the following:

  • Ability to clinically evaluate the patient, independently.
  • Taking decision and administer the modalities & procedures with high skill of performance.
  • Ensure service excellence with high standard of patient care.
  • Communicate with patients to evaluate their levels of speech or language difficulty
  • Determine the extent of communication problems by having a patient complete basic reading and vocalizing tasks or by giving standardized tests
  • Identify treatment options
  • Create and carry out an individualized treatment plan
  • Plan treatment objectives and programs according to the results of evaluation.
  • Explains treatment objectives and methods to patients and their families.
  • Evaluate patient response and progress, and discusses with appropriate physician as and when required.
  • Evaluate and test procedures.
  • Record treatment given and update appropriate records daily.
  • Record patient’s progress on timely manner.
  • Maintain good & healthy relations with other professionals, including physicians, patients, patient’s relatives
  • To ensure that ethical professional practice is followed.
  • Knowledge of safe and proper operations of all equipment.
  • To comply with the service quality Process, environmental & occupational issues & policies of the respective area.
  • To comply with patient safety policy.
  • To ensure safe utilization of equipment’s and proper waste disposal system.
  • To attend home patients and assessments


When treating patients, speech-language pathologists typically do the following:

  • Teach patients how to make sounds and improve their voices
  • Teach alternative communication methods, such as sign language, to patients with little or no speech capability
  • Work with patients to improve their ability to read and write correctly
  • Work with patients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow
  • Counsel patients and families on how to cope with communication disorders


Qualifications : Masters in Audiology and Speech – Language Pathology (with valid registration)


Experience : 0 to 8 years of experience, post qualification.
