Supplier Ecosystem Development Lead | 0→1 Build Mandate
Job Description
Our client is a US-based climate infrastructure and clean technology company focused on developing and commercialising large-scale carbon removal and green hydrogen solutions. Having successfully advanced its technology platform through development and pilot deployment stages, the organisation is now entering the next phase of growth focused on product industrialisation, manufacturing readiness, and commercial-scale deployment. India has been identified as a critical manufacturing hub within the company’s long-term growth strategy. Significant investments are being made across product development, manufacturing capability, and supplier ecosystem creation to support future electrolyzer production and deployment activities. To support this next phase of growth, our client is seeking a Supplier Ecosystem Development Lead to establish, qualify, develop, and scale an India-based supplier ecosystem capable of supporting future manufacturing growth.
Position: Supplier Ecosystem Development Lead | 0→1 Build Mandate
Location: Based in India
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is NOT a traditional procurement, logistics, planning, warehousing, or supply chain operations role. This is a 0→1 build mandate focused on establishing and developing the supplier ecosystem required to support the transition from prototype development towards commercial-scale manufacturing. Working closely with Mechanical Design Engineering, Product Industrialisation, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for building supplier capability, manufacturing readiness, production scalability, and long-term supply resilience across a broad range of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, coating, fabrication, and industrial assembly categories. The role offers the opportunity to help build the manufacturing foundation of a next-generation climate technology platform as it progresses towards commercial deployment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supplier Ecosystem Development
- Identify, assess, audit, and qualify suppliers across critical manufacturing categories.
- Build and expand an India-based supplier ecosystem capable of supporting future manufacturing growth.
- Develop sourcing strategies for stack components, balance-of-system components, fabricated assemblies, and associated industrial equipment.
- Establish second-source and supplier continuity strategies to improve supply resilience and reduce concentration risks.
Supplier Capability & Industrialisation
- Develop supplier capabilities, manufacturing readiness, and process maturity.
- Conduct supplier capability assessments and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Work directly with suppliers to address technical, operational, and manufacturing capability gaps.
- Support supplier industrialisation activities required to meet company-specific design, quality, and assembly requirements.
- Collaborate with suppliers on tooling, fixtures, manufacturing equipment, coating systems, testing systems, automation solutions, and production readiness initiatives where required.
Manufacturing Scale-Up & Production Readiness
- Assess supplier scalability, throughput capability, operational capacity, and production readiness.
- Support future production ramp-up requirements through proactive supplier development and capacity planning.
- Drive initiatives that improve manufacturing efficiency, cost competitiveness, and operational performance.
- Identify and mitigate supplier-related constraints that could impact future production growth.
- Work closely with engineering and industrialisation teams to ensure supplier readiness evolves alongside product and manufacturing maturity.
Supplier Governance & Performance Management
- Establish supplier qualification, governance, and performance management frameworks.
- Monitor supplier quality, delivery, responsiveness, scalability, and cost performance.
- Drive corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives where required.
- Manage supplier-related risks affecting manufacturing readiness and production continuity.
- Build long-term strategic supplier relationships capable of supporting future growth objectives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Mechanical Design Engineering, Product Industrialisation, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Program Management teams.
- Support alignment between product development, manufacturing requirements, and supplier capability development.
- Act as a key interface between internal stakeholders and external suppliers throughout the industrialisation and scale-up journey.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in Supplier Development, Supply Base Development, Supplier Quality, Vendor Development, Manufacturing Industrialisation, Manufacturing Engineering, NPI, or related functions.
- Experience identifying, qualifying, developing, and managing suppliers within manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of supplier capability assessment, manufacturing processes, production readiness, and supplier quality systems.
- Experience supporting manufacturing scale-up, industrialisation, supplier qualification, or production ramp-up initiatives.
- Ability to evaluate supplier scalability, manufacturing maturity, operational capability, and production readiness.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier organisations.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, build-oriented environment where processes, systems, and supplier ecosystems are still being established.
ADVANTAGES:
Experience supporting supplier development, manufacturing industrialisation, supplier qualification, or production scale-up involving one or more of the following sectors, technologies, components, or manufacturing categories would be highly advantageous:
Relevant Sectors & Technologies
- Electrolyzers, Fuel Cells, Batteries, Power Electronics
Electrolyzer / Electrochemical Components
- Bipolar Plates, End Plates, Isolation Plates, Current Collectors, Busbars, Gaskets, Membranes / Diaphragms, Catalyst Coatings
