Job Description
T‑SQL Database Developer (7–9 Years)
Role Summary
We’re looking for a seasoned T‑SQL Database Developer with 7–9 years of hands‑on experience designing, building, and optimizing data solutions on high‑volume transactional systems. The ideal hire brings deep SQL performance‑tuning expertise , strong data‑modelling skills, and practical exposure to banking and/or insurance —covering areas such as payments, core banking, policy administration, claims, risk, or regulatory reporting. Knowledge of Sybase ASE will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Build robust database objects (stored procedures, functions, views, triggers) and performant SQL for OLTP/operational analytics workloads.
- Performance & Scalability: Diagnose and tune complex queries, indexing strategies, partitioning, and concurrency; analyse execution plans and remediate hot spots.
- Data Modelling & Standards: Create logical/physical models, enforce referential integrity, and apply naming/versioning and code‑quality standards.
- Batch & Automation: Author and maintain deployment and batch scripts (e.g., PowerShell/Bash) and schedule/monitor jobs (e.g., Control‑M/Autosys or native SQL Agent).
- Integration & ETL: Build and optimize ETL/ELT flows (e.g., SSIS/Azure Data Factory or equivalent) feeding downstream apps, reports, and regulatory packs.
- Reliability & Security: Implement backup/restore, DR patterns, role‑based access, and data‑protection controls for PII/financial data; assist with audits.
- SDLC & DevOps: Use Git/SVN; participate in code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and controlled releases across environments.
- Collaboration: Partner with application developers, BAs, testers, and platform/infra teams; provide L3 support for production incidents and root‑cause analysis.
- Mentoring: Guide junior engineers on SQL craftsmanship, troubleshooting, and performance best practices.
- Ways of Working: Deliver in Agile/Scrum—plan, estimate, and track work using sprint ceremonies and tooling (e.g., Jira/Azure Boards).
Must‑Have Qualifications
- 7–9 years total experience as a database/T‑SQL developer in mission‑critical systems.
- Expert‑level T‑SQL in Microsoft SQL Server (query writing, set‑based design, window functions, error handling, transactions).
- Advanced performance tuning: indexing/partitioning, parameter sniffing strategies, statistics management, memory/IO considerations.
- Solid data‑modelling: normalization/denormalization, constraints, keys, and concurrency patterns.
- Scripting & Jobs: Windows/Linux scripting for build/deploy/ops automation; job scheduling and monitoring.
- Version control: Git (preferred) or SVN; pull requests and code‑review discipline.
- Banking/Insurance exposure: real‑world experience with at least one area—payments, cards, core banking, lending, policy/claims, underwriting, risk, or compliance/reporting (e.g., AML/KYC, IFRS/IRDAI reporting).
- Stakeholder skills: crisp communication with business/tech partners; clear documentation
