Job Description
This role will have a primary focus on GST and Indirect Taxation (approximately 80%) , while also overseeing key Direct Taxation (approximately 20%) compliance and coordination activities. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical expertise in GST laws, tax audits, assessments, reconciliations, litigation management, and business advisory, while effectively partnering with business teams, auditors, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
Key Responsibilities
Indirect Taxation (Primary Focus)
- Lead end-to-end GST compliance across the organization, ensuring timely and accurate filing of returns and statutory submissions.
- Review GST reconciliations, tax payments, Input Tax Credit (ITC) utilization, and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Drive GST process improvements, compliance controls, and risk mitigation initiatives.
- Advise business teams on GST implications relating to pricing, procurement, contracts, supply chain, inter-state transactions, and new business initiatives.
- Handle GST assessments, audits, departmental investigations, notices, and litigation matters.
- Coordinate with tax consultants and legal advisors for representation before tax authorities and appellate forums.
- Review HSN classifications, tax positions, and GST applicability across products and business transactions.
- Monitor changes in indirect tax laws and proactively assess business impact and compliance requirements.
- Support customs-related matters and provide indirect tax advisory wherever applicable.
Direct Taxation (Secondary Focus)
- Oversee TDS/TCS compliance and related statutory filings.
- Support income tax return filing, tax audits, assessments, and notices in coordination with consultants.
- Assist in tax planning initiatives and review direct tax implications of business transactions.
- Coordinate with external advisors on direct tax compliance and regulatory matters.
Litigation, Advisory & Governance
- Independently manage tax notices, assessments, appeals, audits, and litigation matters.
- Coordinate with consultants, advocates, and regulatory authorities on ongoing cases.
- Track tax exposures, litigation status, and provisioning requirements.
- Provide strategic tax advisory to leadership on business decisions and regulatory developments.
- Ensure robust tax governance, SOPs, documentation, and internal controls.
- Support statutory, internal, and tax audits.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulatory requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
- Chartered Accountant (CA), CA Inter, CMA, or CMA Inter with relevant taxation experience.
- 7–10 years of experience in taxation, with strong expertise in GST and indirect taxation.
- Experience in retail, jewellery, manufacturing, FMCG, or large corporate environments will be an added advantage.
Key Skills & Competencies
