Job Description

Fermentation Process Management

  • Lead end-to-end fermentation process operations for commercial manufacturing.
  • Ensure process consistency, batch reproducibility, and optimum fermentation performance.
  • Monitor critical fermentation parameters including pH, temperature, aeration, agitation, feed strategy, and dissolved oxygen levels.
  • Drive yield improvement and process optimization initiatives.
  • Ensure contamination-free fermentation operations across all stages.

Inoculum & Seed Fermentation Oversight

  • Oversee inoculum preparation and seed fermentation activities.
  • Ensure timely availability of healthy inoculum cultures for commercial production batches.
  • Standardize inoculum development and aseptic handling practices.
  • Improve inoculum efficiency and reduce contamination risks.

Process Excellence & Optimization

  • Drive continuous improvement projects related to fermentation efficiency, productivity, cycle time, and process robustness.
  • Analyze process trends and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Optimize media composition, feeding strategies, and fermentation conditions.
  • Support automation and digital process monitoring initiatives.

Technology Transfer & Scale-Up

  • Lead technology transfer activities from R&D to pilot plant and commercial production.
  • Ensure successful scale-up and commercialization of new products and fermentation technologies.
  • Coordinate pilot trials, validation batches, and process feasibility studies.
  • Minimize scale-up risks and process variability.

Pilot Plant Management

  • Oversee pilot plant operations and process development activities.
  • Ensure smooth transition of processes from laboratory scale to manufacturing scale.
  • Support process validation and engineering trials.

GMP, Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with GMP, SOPs, biosafety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and approve batch records, process documents, SOPs, and protocols.
  • Participate in audits, investigations, CAPA, change controls, and compliance reviews.
  • Ensure proper documentation and data integrity practices.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor fermentation engineers, inoculum teams, and process excellence personnel.
  • Conduct technical training programs on fermentation technology and GMP practices.
  • Build a culture of innovation, accountability, and operational excellence.

Educational Qualification

  • B.Tech / M.Tech
  • Biotechnology
  • Bioprocess Engineering
  • Additional qualification in Process Engineering or Operations Management preferred.

Experience Required

  • 15–20 years of experience in fermentation-based biotechnology or bio-pharma manufacturing.
  • Strong expertise in large-scale fermentation process operations and scale-up activities.
