Product designer - Family Entertainment Centres (FEC)

Design the Next Generation of Play Experiences

Sportainment Engineering and Design (SED) is looking for an experienced and creative Product Designer to join our growing team.

In this role, you will design and develop innovative attractions and equipment for Family Entertainment Centres (FECs), including:

• Trampoline Parks
• Ninja Courses
• Indoor Play Areas
• Climbing Structures
• Adventure Attractions
• Active Entertainment Concepts

What You'll Do

Product Design & Development

• Design innovative FEC attractions and recreational equipment based on market trends and client requirements
• Develop concepts, layouts, mock-ups, and detailed designs using tools such as AutoCAD and SketchUp
• Create engaging indoor and outdoor play experiences that balance creativity, functionality, and user experience
• Contribute to the development of new products and attraction concepts

Engineering & Manufacturing Integration

• Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing, assembly, durability, and cost efficiency
• Select appropriate materials based on performance, safety, and commercial requirements
• Collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams throughout the development process

Safety & Compliance

• Design products in accordance with international safety standards, including ASTM and EN requirements
• Conduct risk assessments and integrate safety considerations into all design stages
• Ensure products meet quality, performance, and compliance expectations

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Design, and Project teams
• Support client proposals through conceptual layouts, visual presentations, and design solutions
• Participate in client discussions and project development activities

Research & Innovation

• Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor products
• Conduct market research and contribute to innovation initiatives
• Identify opportunities to enhance product performance and customer experience

Prototyping & Testing

• Support prototype development and testing activities
• Evaluate product performance and user feedback
• Refine and improve designs through iterative development

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Product Design or a related field

Experience

• 5 to 12+ years of experience in Product Design
• Experience within Family Entertainment Centres, playgrounds, recreational products, sports equipment, or structural systems is highly desirable
• Proven track record of bringing products from concept through manufacturing

Required Skills

Design & Engineering

• Strong understanding of design principles and ergonomics
• Knowledge of structural design concepts
• Expertise in materials and manufacturing processes
• Ability to develop practical and manufacturable solutions

Software

• AutoCAD
• SketchUp
• Adobe Illustrator

• Market trends and customer expectations
• Emerging technologies and innovation practices
• Product development methodologies

Professional Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively across Sales, Design, Engineering, and Marketing teams

Nice to Have

• Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems
• Knowledge of international safety standards for recreational and amusement equipment
• Experience in entertainment, leisure, playground, or active recreation industries
