Role Summary
Lead the delivery of high-impact product UI within Anaplan's modern frontend platform. You will own complex features end-to-end-from technical design and implementation through testing, security remediation, observability, and production releases. You will mentor engineers, raise engineering standards, and influence patterns across React/TypeScript, monorepo architecture, design systems, and microfrontend boundaries.
What You'll Do
- Architect and ship React + TypeScript features with strong component design, custom hooks, and performance tuning (render paths, memoization, code splitting, lazy loading).
- Drive design-system-first development using ADS and Material UI; extend shared components without fragmenting the UX.
- Own state and routing patterns: Redux at scale, pragmatic adoption of Zustand, and React Router v5 navigation and deep-linking concerns.
- Design and implement complex product UI: high-density grids, dashboards, widgets, drag-and-drop, and charts with resilient loading, error, and empty states.
- Define integration contracts for REST and GraphQL; partner on BFF (Backend-for-Frontend) design, pagination, caching, and client-side mapping layers.
- Advance monorepo practices (pnpm, Nx): shared libraries, versioning, build graph optimization, and cross-package API stability.
- Establish the testing strategy: Vitest + RTL (React Testing Library) for fast feedback; Cucumber + Playwright BDD E2E for critical journeys.
- Champion i18n (internationalization) and a11y (accessibility) using WCAG-oriented patterns, keyboard flows, screen reader behavior, and RTL/locale edge cases.
- Guide microfrontend and module federation boundaries (shared dependencies, runtime composition, isolation, and failure modes).
- Own Vite/Webpack build configuration tradeoffs, bundle analysis, and platform tooling (Docker/Tilt, feature flags, internal API clients).
- Lead production support: debug with Grafana, Splunk, and distributed traces/logs; write actionable incident notes and preventative fixes.
- Own release to production: release trains, rollback judgment, coordination with SRE/platform, and Harness/Argo CD pipelines.
- Resolve Snyk, SAST, and dependency vulnerabilities; embed secure SDLC practices in team workflows.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers via reviews, pairing sessions, and technical RFCs; represent the frontend team in cross-team design reviews.
- Optionally lead or spike React Native initiatives (native tooling, debugging, shared logic extraction).
Required Qualifications
Core Web (Expert-Level Application)
- Deep HTML/CSS skills applied through design systems rather than ad-hoc styling.
- Advanced TypeScript (generics, discriminated unions, utility types, strict typing for API models).
- Web Components literacy (custom elements, shadow DOM, and interoperability with React hosts where applicable).
React Platform Leadership
- 5+ years of experience building large, long-lived frontend products; 3+ years of experience leading features in React.
- Proven performance optimization in data-heavy UIs (virtualization, debouncing, selector patterns, profiling).
- Strong component API design: composability, accessibility props, testability, and extension points.
Architecture & Tooling
- Production experience with monorepos (pnpm, Nx), shared packages, and internal design libraries.
- Vite and/or Webpack expertise; familiarity with module federation and microfrontend operational concerns.
- GraphQL client patterns (caching, error policies, colocated queries) plus robust REST client abstractions.
- BFF collaboration: shaping payloads for UI needs, auth/session handling at the edge of frontend concerns.
Quality, Security & Operations
- Testing leadership: RTL + Vitest, meaningful coverage of behavior (not implementation detail); E2E strategy with Playwright/Cucumber.
- Hands-on vulnerability remediation (Snyk, npm audits, SAST triage) and secure dependency management.
- Production debugging and observability (Grafana, Splunk); SLO-aware mindset for customer-impacting defects.
- CI/CD and release ownership (GitHub Actions or equivalent, Harness, Argo CD).
Leadership & Delivery
- Track record of mentoring engineers and raising code quality through reviews and standards.
- Strong stakeholder communication (Jira, RFCs, estimations, risk callouts).
- Experience taking features through the full lifecycle, including production rollout and post-release monitoring.
Nice to Have
- React Native + native build/debug (Xcode/Android tooling) for shared mobile roadmap.
- Storybook + visual regression strategy for ADS consumers.
- Feature flag frameworks and experimentation patterns.
- Prior enterprise SaaS: multi-tenant UX, permissions, auditability, enterprise admin surfaces.
- Experience with drag-and-drop frameworks, canvas/SVG charting, and accessibility in non-standard widgets.
- Platform engineering overlap: containerized dev environments, service mesh basics, and API gateway familiarity (conceptual).
What Success Looks Like
- Shippable, accessible, internationalized features with predictable performance in complex UIs.
- Reduced regressions through disciplined testing and observability-backed fixes.
- Cleaner monorepo boundaries and reusable patterns adopted by other squads.
- Improved security posture (fewer recurring Snyk/SAST issues, faster remediation).
- Reliable releases with measurable post-deploy stability.
