About the Role:
Mid-day Digital is looking for a dynamic, sharp, and deeply plugged-in Senior Sub-Editor to join our fast-paced digital entertainment desk. This isn't a passive aggregation job; we are looking for a hybrid journalist who can command the desk and thrive in the field.
You will be responsible for chasing breaking Bollywood news, reviewing the latest theatrical and OTT releases, writing high-retention feature stories, and leading celebrity interviews. The ideal candidate has a razor-sharp nose for what trends in Mumbai and globally, knows how to package a story for digital audiences, and possesses a strong network of industry sources.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Creation & Copy Editing: Write and meticulously edit breaking news, daily entertainment reports, and deeply researched feature articles. Ensure all copy is clean, legally safe, factually accurate, and optimised for SEO.
- Celebrity Interviews: Conceptualise, pitch, and execute text and video interviews.
- Reviews & Critiques: Deliver swift, objective, and engaging reviews for mainstream cinema, regional films, and major OTT series.
- Field Reporting & Event Coverage: Step out from behind the desk to cover movie promotions, press conferences, red carpets, and local entertainment events in Mumbai.
- Desk Management: Assist the Desk Head in tracking viral trends, managing real-time news breaks, and mentoring junior writers/trainees.
- Digital Optimisation: Craft high-click headlines, use analytics tools to track story performance, and collaborate with the social media team to maximise article reach.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 6–7 years of mainstream media experience, with a significant portion dedicated to a fast-growing digital entertainment desk.
- Industry Knowledge: An exhaustive understanding of Bollywood, regional Indian cinema, the evolving OTT landscape, and global pop culture/fashion trends.
- Multimedia Fluency: Comfortable appearing on camera for video interviews, hosting digital segments, or conducting live audio/video chats.
- Speed & Accuracy: Ability to file clean, publication-ready copy under tight breaking-news deadlines without sacrificing depth or accuracy.
- SEO & Analytics: Strong grasp of SEO best practices, keyword integration, and basic familiarity with tools like Google Analytics and Google Trends.
