Role Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Power BI Developer with hands-on experience in Deneb visual development to join our client's analytics and data engineering team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in advanced Power BI visualizations, data modeling, and SQL querying, along with proven experience in designing custom visuals using Deneb (Vega-Lite/JSON) to deliver highly interactive, narrative-driven dashboards.

This role requires a blend of technical proficiency, creativity, and business acumen to transform data into compelling, insightful stories that drive data-informed decisions across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards leveraging both standard and custom Deneb visuals for enhanced storytelling and visualization customization.
• Create and configure data models, relationships, calculated columns/measures, and row-level security (RLS) in Power BI.
• Use Vega-Lite/JSON scripting within Deneb to build tailored visuals that meet unique business presentation needs.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements, translate them into interactive reporting solutions, and ensure alignment with business goals.
• Write complex, optimized SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
• Work closely with data engineering teams to design efficient ETL pipelines and manage data refresh schedules.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and performance optimization across all Power BI assets.
• Troubleshoot Power BI data issues and implement best practices for performance tuning and visualization standards.
• Stay updated on emerging Power BI and visualization technologies, recommending innovations to improve user experience.

Required Technical Skills

Power BI Expertise

• Advanced Power BI report and dashboard development.
• Proven experience with Deneb custom visuals, including Vega-Lite or JSON configuration for tailored data storytelling.
• Strong understanding of DAX, data modeling, and Power Query (M language).
• Expertise in performance optimization, visuals rendering efficiency, and large dataset handling.
• Knowledge of integrating Power BI with Azure services (e.g., Synapse, Data Factory, SQL Database).

SQL & Database Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in working with relational databases such as SQL Server, Azure SQL, or Snowflake.
• Understanding of database design principles and query optimization.

Preferred Skills (Good to Have)

• Experience with Deneb templates, reusable custom visuals, and advanced formatting for UX consistency.
• Exposure to Python or R integration in Power BI for analytics and visualization enrichment.
• Familiarity with Power BI REST APIs or embedding solutions.
• Understanding of data storytelling and UX/UI principles for analytical dashboards.
• Experience working in Agile or DevOps environments for BI delivery.

Educational Qualification

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field.
• Microsoft certifications such as PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) or PL-200 (Power Platform Functional Consultant) are a plus.
