This role sits within the API Center of Excellence (CoE) and is responsible for ensuring the design and implementation of high-quality, reusable, secure, and scalable APIs aligned with enterprise architecture principles.\nKey Responsibilities\nAPI Strategy & Governance\nDefine and enforce API design standards, guidelines, and best practices (REST, event-driven, GraphQL where applicable)\nEstablish governance models for API lifecycle management (design, build, publish, versioning, retirement)\nDrive consistency in API design across domains and teams\nAdvisory & Enablement\nPartner with application development teams to guide them in selecting the right API patterns (e.g., System, Process, Experience APIs)\nProvide hands-on design reviews and architecture guidance\nAct as a trusted advisor for API-led integration and modernization initiatives\nAPI Design & Quality\nEnsure APIs are designed for reusability, scalability, and performance\nPromote API-first design using OpenAPI/Swagger specifications\nDefine and enforce standards for security (OAuth2, mTLS, etc.), versioning, and documentation\nAdoption & Evangelization\nDrive API adoption across the organization through workshops, training, and reusable templates\nBuild and maintain API design playbooks, reference architectures, and accelerators\nPromote API product mindset and developer experience (DX)\nPlatform & Tooling\nWork with API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, MuleSoft, Kong, Azure API Management)\nDefine CI/CD integration patterns for APIs\nEnable API discovery via developer portals and catalogs\nCollaboration\nWork closely with Enterprise Architecture, Platform Engineering, Security, and DevOps teams\nAlign API initiatives with broader digital and integration strategy\nRequired Skills & Experience\n10+ years in software engineering, integration, or API development\nStrong expertise in API design principles (REST, event-driven architecture, microservices)\nHands-on experience with API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, MuleSoft, Kong, Azure APIM)\nExperience with API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger), API gateways, and developer portals\nStrong understanding of API security (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS)\nExperience in CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices\nProven ability to influence and guide multiple development teams\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience in setting up or working within an API CoE\nKnowledge of domain-driven design (DDD) and API-led connectivity\nExposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)\nFamiliarity with event streaming (Kafka, messaging systems)\nStrong communication and stakeholder management skills\n\nWho You Are\n\nJob description and skills required: Job Title: Senior SME - API Center of Excellence (CoE)\nRole Overview\nWe are looking for a Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) to drive API strategy, standards, and adoption across application development teams.
