Join us and help run what runs the world.\nThis Position reports to:\nR&D Team Lead\nYour role and responsibilities:\n\nWe are looking for a drives domain lead at ABB Global Industries and Services Private Limited (GISPL). This is a company which has 3 business areas to support ABB R&D projects globally. We are located in Bangalore, India and we have 2000 employees as a part of this company serving in the areas of Research, Development, Engineering center and Regional ERP support center which contributes to ABB's 4 business areas globally.
In 2015 the company name was registered as ABB Global Industries and Services Private Limited (GISPL). This position is opened in the Motion Drive Products (MODP) Division, which is a global technology leader in variable frequency drives. We keep the world turning, while saving energy every day.
Our drives help our customers to achieve energy efficiency, sustainability and achieve profitable growth. You would be reporting to the Division R&D Manager located in Bangalore. You will be working with the teams which are developing and validating shippable products for the India and global markets.
You will also be a part of global R&D community spread across the ABB MODP division.\n\nThe work model for the role is: #LI-Hybrid\n\nThis role is contributing to the Motion Drive Product Division in Bangalore.\n\nYou will be mainly accountable for:\n\nFirmware development of variable frequency drives at various layers of its architecture. Collaborate with global and local R&D and product management teams to develop world class products.\n\nCollaborating with local business units and customers to understand application requirements and challenges. Analysing and resolving customer issues related to drive performance and functionality.
Supporting commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of variable frequency drive systems in real-world applications\n\nDemonstrate solid competency in Designing, developing, and maintaining software for variable frequency drive control systems.\n\nStrong collaboration within R&D community and alignment with agile software development principles. Contributing to firmware releases , including development, testing, validation, documentation and release.\n\nEnsuring quality, reliability, and compliance of deliverables with ABB processes and standards.\n\nDemonstrate strong commitment to quality culture in ABB R&D. Mindset to take risk, share success and failures in the team.\n\nMindset towards innovative thinking and challenging the current situations.
Providing technical guidance and support to internal stakeholders and customers\n\nMost importantly, living ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.\n\nOur team dynamics\nYou will join a high performing global R&D team making energy efficient industrial drives, where you will be able to thrive.\n\nQualifications for the role :\n\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related field, with 8–10 years of hands-on experience in variable frequency drive commissioning, application engineering, or drive systems development.\n\nStrong understanding of variable frequency drive and/or Servo Drives, including customer applications, control systems. Knowledge about drive-motor control techniques such as speed/torque control, closed or open loop controls etc.\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in field environment. Customer-focused mindset and ability to trouble shoot motor and drive systems.\n\nGood communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams; self-driven, proactive, and results-oriented.\n\nWorking knowledge of designing and developing software/applications , ensuring high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code.\n\nProven ability to work with project managers, customers, and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and support planning and execution of OEM applications.\n\nWillingness to travel to customer sites for application understanding and troubleshooting (travel\n\nPassion for industrial automation and variable frequency drive technologies, with familiarity in industrial communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET).\n\nMore about us :\n\nThis position is opened in the Motion Drive Products (MODP) Division, which is a global technology leader in variable frequency drives.
