Platform Engineer - Sybase Database Administrator

The role is responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, scalability, and operational stability of Sybase database platforms supporting business-critical banking workloads. Secondary expertise in Microsoft SQL Server is required to support ancillary applications and integrated banking systems.\nThe ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience managing enterprise-scale Sybase environments within highly regulated financial institutions. The role involves database administration, performance tuning, capacity planning, automation, backup and recovery, production support, and collaboration with application and infrastructure teams to ensure optimal database operations.\nRoles & Responsibilities\nAdminister, maintain, and support Sybase ASE database environments hosting critical banking and treasury applications.\nPerform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of Sybase database platforms.\nMonitor database performance, availability, and capacity to ensure optimal system operation.\nAnalyze and resolve database-related incidents, performance bottlenecks, locking issues, and production outages.\nPerform database performance tuning through query optimization, indexing strategies, and resource utilization analysis.\nManage database backup, recovery, restoration, and disaster recovery processes.\nEnsure database environments meet recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO).\nSupport application teams during deployments, releases, upgrades, and production changes.\nDesign and implement database maintenance plans, housekeeping activities, and performance improvement initiatives.\nAdminister user access, database security, authentication, and authorization controls in accordance with banking security policies.\nImplement database monitoring, alerting, and proactive health checks to minimize service disruptions.\nPerform capacity planning, storage management, and growth forecasting for database environments.\nSupport database replication, high availability, clustering, and failover configurations where applicable.\nDevelop and maintain automation scripts for database administration and operational activities.\nProvide secondary support for Microsoft SQL Server environments and related database services.\nCollaborate with infrastructure, application, middleware, and security teams to resolve cross-functional issues.\nSupport audit reviews, compliance assessments, and regulatory requirements for database platforms.\nMaintain database documentation, operational procedures, recovery plans, and technical standards.\nParticipate in root cause analysis (RCA) activities and implement preventive actions for recurring issues.\nProvide L2/L3 production support and participate in on-call support rotations as required.\nDrive continuous improvement initiatives related to database reliability, performance, automation, and operational excellence.\nYour Future at Kyndryl\nThe career path ahead is full of exciting opportunities to grow and advance within the job family.

And finally, you're open and borderless - naturally inclusive in how you work with others.\n\nRequired Technical and Professional Experience\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.\n\nMinimum 6+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Engineer, Database Administrator, or Platform Engineer supporting enterprise database environments.\n\nStrong expertise in Sybase ASE database administration, configuration, and performance tuning.\n\nProven experience managing production Sybase environments in banking, financial services, or other mission-critical industries.\n\nGood working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration and support.\n\nStrong experience with database installation, upgrades, patch management, and migration activities.\n\nHands-on experience with database backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.\n\nExpertise in SQL query optimization, indexing, execution plan analysis, and performance troubleshooting.\n\nExperience supporting high-availability, replication, clustering, and failover database architectures.\n\nStrong knowledge of database security, access controls, encryption, and compliance requirements.\n\nExperience with Unix/Linux operating systems and database-related administration activities.\n\nProficiency in Shell Scripting, Korn Shell (ksh), PowerShell, or automation scripting tools.\n\nExperience with database monitoring and performance management tools.\n\nKnowledge of storage systems, server infrastructure, and platform engineering principles.\n\nPreferred Technical and Professional Experience\nFamiliarity with ITIL processes including Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management.\n\nExperience supporting Temenos applications (Transact, T24, Kondor, Corona, or related platforms) is highly desirable.\n\nUnderstanding of banking, treasury, payments, and financial services application ecosystems.\n\nExperience working within highly regulated environments and supporting audit and compliance requirements.\n\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis capabilities.\n\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills.\n\nAbility to work effectively in geographically distributed teams supporting global banking operations.\n\nRelevant certifications in Sybase, SQL Server, Database Administration, Cloud Platforms, or ITIL would be advantageous.\n\nBeing You\nThe "Kyn" in Kyndryl means kinship, which represents the strong bonds we have with each other, our customers and our communities.
