The Peer Review Management team's primary function is to provide best-in-class editorial support to authors, editors (internal and external) and peer reviewers from the point of submission through to acceptance.\nAssistant Editors play an important role in the manuscript 'submission to accepts' process, overseeing tasks such as conducting suitability checks, finding, and assigning EBMs, and managing communication with editors, reviewers, and authors. They play a key role in facilitating decision-making, resolving author queries, and ensuring manuscripts progress smoothly through the publishing pipeline.
Furthermore, they monitor the overall health of the journal by reviewing its performance, identifying challenges, and proposing solutions. In essence, they act as catalysts in the peer review process, ensuring high-quality manuscripts are delivered to EBMs and peer review is conducted efficiently and within set timelines.\nResponsibilities\nPerform enhanced Quality Checks (Suitability Assessment) on manuscripts to ensure they meet our requirements to proceed to editor assignment/peer review\nResponsible for managing Journal pipeline by processing manuscripts from 'Ready for editorial' through to final decision\nInvite EBMs to handle the manuscript OR assign manuscripts to an appropriate handling editor\nSupport Editors throughout the process, creating excellent working relationships with them\nCollaborate and build rapport with Journal editorial staff for continuous improvement/updates and new initiatives in the process\nHandle email correspondence between the various parties involved in the publication process; (Authors, Reviewers, Editors, Guest editors, Readers, etc. for the assigned manuscript)\nAssess the decision recommendation of Handling Editors and send final decision to authors\nMonitor progress throughout the review process and provide help/support to reach final decision\nMentor and support new team members\nProvide inputs on improving the process to reduce TAT and manage pipeline at various stages of the editorial process\nKey Relationships\nAuthors, EBMs, and Peer Reviewers\nJournal Editors\nJournal Editorial Office\nExternal Partners (Vendors)\nExperience, Skills & Qualifications\nExperience\nA minimum of 2 years of full time work experience\nSkills\nGood Communication Skills (written and verbal English)\nEmail etiquettes\nSubject matter expertise (STEM)- Medicine/Life/Physical Science/Engineering\nStrong analytical and logical reasoning ability\nCustomer service and business communication experience\nExperience in Manuscript handling will be an added advantage\nFamiliarity with manuscript management systems, editorial workflows, and publishing tools is desirable\nShould possess organizational, decision-making, and time-management skills\nQualification\nMaster's degree or equivalent in - Medicine/Life sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/ Computer Science/Engineering (Bachelor's)\nSpringer Nature Skills associated with this Job Profile include:\nSN-Interpersonal Awareness, SN-Collaboration, SN-Action-Oriented, SN-Resourcefulness, SN-Process Optimization, SN-Decision Quality, SN-Manuscript Assessment, SN-Writing Skills, SN-Editorial Skills, SN-Publishing Workflows & Systems, SN-Adaptability\nAt Springer Nature, our mission is to be part of progress - and that begins with inclusion: of people, perspectives, and ideas.
